If You Were At Phoenix Forum Check Your Credit Cards

Over the last couple of months I've had both my American Express and my Visa cards used by other people and had to have them replaced.

No, I didn't have them stolen and they were in my possession the whole time.

I knew that somewhere I had used them had gotten hacked.

And today I got a letter from Destination Hotels explaining that they had indeed been hacked and anyone whom had stayed at any of their properties between Jan. 1 and June 15 of this year had been compromised. And the Tempe Mission Palms is listed as one of the properties.

So that explains what happened with my cards. I suggest everybody who attended the Phoenix Forum and had a room and/or used their card on the property get themselves new cards immediately.

Any place you can confirm your cards were used?

Same thing happened to me recently and a couple of fool spent $800 at Footlocker and $300 at Applebee's in Brooklyn.

You gotta drink a lot of booze with a few friend to rakc a bill like that up at ABs ... unless of course they somehow got cash back...? Can you even do that at ABs?

Oh that's just great...I was contacted by my bank numerous times after telling me that my card had been compromised, but I never actually went through my statements with a fine tooth comb.

They only allow pins for up to 4 digits on a personal account, so you couldn't use your birthday any longer.

Sorry to hear that Robbie. Did the hotel compensate you with free rooms for life or something? I would get them for all they're worth.

They were able to hit epass? I was hoping not. I used my epass card at the ATM in the lobby, 1-2 cards at the lobby bar, and a card for the room.. Guess I will be checking epass statements also.

The letter states that ALL cards were compromised that were used on property. So if you used your card at any time there...you need to get a new one. If yours hasn't been hit yet, it will be.

Well that dosnt make US very happy ;)

If youre not staying there you really only use a card if you want to buy someone a premium drink or eat dinner... thats if you miss one of the many free layouts they have.

just going wont snag you...

Not that this is related in this specific case, but the first thing I do every time I check into a show hotel, is tell them to not allow phone calls or charges to the room from room service/bars. They typically argue "but what if you want something from the bar?" but insist and they will lock it down. This way you cannot be held accountable for any charges to your room (aside from mini-bar or damages).

The second thing I do, is always leave a deposit in cash, or worst case, with ePassporte (because I don't care much about it). No hotel will refuse a cash deposit on your stay.

I know people say using your credit card for everything increases your buying power by x%, but if you factor in how often this kind of thing happens; it really doesn't. Cash only and you will end up saving money (as, in addition to no illegal charges, you will end up on a set budget for the night if you only carry cash with you).

The cc companies need to have a way to issue a temporary card for use in a given time period, like a trip, vacation, conference, whatever. That way, you could use that and then it would expire at the end of the time period and the number could not be used again. They already offer temp numbers for a single purchase but it should be expanded a bit. It would stop a lot of fraud. Of course, everyone would be too lazy to use it so I suppose they thought about it and discarded the idea.

The last three shows I went to my card was compromised.

Someone is following the shows around.

Enjoy the next one.
