Carpet because the UK isn't exactly a hot country plus you can wander about in socks without slipping on it.

Good soft carpet in the bedroom is nice. Hardwood floors in most of the rest of the place. That is my ideal...

![]() I was a tiler, I know how little heated floors cost & if done right they can be effective. However, to get out of bed & have a nice carpet to walk on is nicer than a hard floor, whether wood or tiles. |

I'm a carpet kind of person. We have 95% of our basement in carpet (minus bar area and laundry room) and upstairs is split 50/50 pretty much. I prefer carpet, I'd rather vaccum than sweep/mop

My personal homes, I agree. Stone in Kitchen and Bathrooms, carpet in bedrooms and hardwood in living, dining and hallways.

hardwood always returns the investment, is neutral relative to prospective buyers' tastes. Only drawback is if you have a dog, they do a number on them running around the house

Had tile throughout in FL and MX and loved it but here in the midwest USA its carpet everywhere but the kitchen and baths. Carpet deadens the noise / echo and in my humble opinion softer & warmer on the feet. And if you have dogs... they can destroy hardwoods in no time.

Our hose is hardwood through out except in the bathrooms where it's tiles with under floor heating. Will do the kitchen soon in tiles as well soon, wood soaks up every spill and condensation no matter how well you insulate it and then it starts to bend.

I love heated ceramic or stone floor tiles. Hardwood and softwood is nice too, got oak and fir floors where I live now. Fixed carpet is disgusting. Natural textile rugs on tile or hardwood/softwood floors is nice, just make sure you got a great vacuum cleaner with HEPA filters.

"Hardwood throughout" is a selling point realtors put in their comments on the MLS. so do hardwood throughout and some area rugs for warmth in the bedrooms. |

Hardwood for sure, carpet is gross even if it looks superficially clean. Tile is more popular here in FL, and hardwood elsewhere, but I would never put a square inch of nasty carpet in any house I was buying.
