Friday's reminder to back up your shit

Even I managed to forget to do it last week.

    Enjoy your weekend

Good point. Also, remember onsite back up is not enough. IF you get robbed or have a fire, what happens to your shit?

I am testing carbonite for my offsite backup and liking it so far.

I also have a HDD at my bro's with all my absolutely essential shit on.

I lost a year's worth of my life once when I was robbed. Photographs, music I had made, all sorts. So now I am paranoid.

Online backups don't work for me. Not when I have 40+ TB to backup. A solid on-site backup plan trumps online backup every time. Here's the trick: Store data in triplicate. Keep one set for actively working with, one backup set on-site, and one backup set off-site, then constantly rotate your two backups. You cannot fail. There is no way three sets of data will be destroyed or stolen all at the same time.

To be clear, I wasn't for a split second suggesting online backup should be used in isolation. Just that you should use it on top of your on site back up.

I heard the 3-2-1 rule. 3 copies of everything, on 2 different media types and 1 offsite.

                      Which I kinda liked.
