The group that sent out 5,000 letters to people who had illegally downloaded the movie The Hurt Locker are now hiring 15 different law firms around the country to act as local counsel because they plan to start going after those who haven't settled sometime in August.

These guys mean business. I think it is good to see someone stand up for their product.

I have a feeling this is one of those things that a lot of people don't hear about so unless they know someone who has had it happen to them they just keep chugging along. I would think this company would spend some of the money they are spending on lawyers to hire a good PR firm that made sure this story got out there and was as wide spread as possible. Suing might stop these people, but it won't help stop others unless they get the word out.

Are they specifically chasing films i've never heard of before? Well I have heard of Steam Experiment but none of the others. Maybe they were all genuinely shit so chasing pirates is the only way to make money from them.

They are only going after the movies made by the independent studios that have signed on to use their services. So far, that only includes a bunch of shitty movies made by Uwe Boll and the studio that made Hurt Locker and a few other independents.

The MPAA seen how badly the RIAA failed with their mass lawsuits so they are steering clear of suing downloaders. Not just because of the negative backlash, but because it doesn't make money:

I've wondered why companies who own digital content don't build a method of identifying and suing thieves into their business models. Is it that hard to do? Is it not a good idea to sue people, even if they're stealing from you?

they wont be successful. being part of a swarm does not mean you pirated the entire movie nor watched it.
