Its SO dirty up there that when Statoil was offered to take over a spot they actually demanded that for them to do that a few things had to change
Basically Statoil demanded that everything was cleaned up a bit and that stricter laws were set and enforced.
Im not sure if that debate has concluded yet.

great solar kits for houses, you spend between 10 and 20k on a decent sized system and you're in business. those prices don't include gov rebates either.
but you'd have to be living in a place with good sunlight for more than 6 months in a year to really get some use out of it.

The politicians in that province are retarded. So much money made there they could be leading the world in renewable research and development but when the day comes nobody needs or wants all that dirty oil we'll be left with a few appeasement windfarms and fuck else all. Ralph kept a tight budget, lots of money to work with but still, he kept us well into the black. The new guy, the farmer, he takes over puts us into debt again after all the cuts we struggled through to become a responsible spending province, puts us in debt with oil prices at their highest. The corps come in, push these hick politicians around and when they're gone we'll have all that shit leftover up north to clean up with our kids and grand kids taxes.Comment

The place employs a TON of people.
Not only locally but commuters as well as students during the summer....students can make more money from tip working in a bar in one summer then years at starbucks etc
Everyone knows about the negative environmental impact and how disgusting things are up there, but very little footage ever comes out of that place.
And when it does its not usually through any mayor news source and its not real dirty like this one
However this video was released and instantly made all news channels, front pages in papers and well......everywhere.

I've drilled in the tarsands for North American Oil Sands Corporation in the Leismer field. What they show is pretty extreme, but that can be expected. I personally think is fair game. There is no doubt about it that money is first priority, and the quickest route to punching holes is all that is worried about. I've personally shoveled sawdust and dirt over spills. That's a standard procedure. Cover it up. Never anything massive, but it still applies. Dig hole, push it in, cover it up.
