Now, if you actually read my post it has nothing to do with YOU but in general. There are too many variables, lack of information, or the OP level of workout experience, age, or the type of weight loss/strength he is expecting and there is no possible way you would know.

Again, my suggestion is he first learns how to control energy and water management before starting a program like that.

p90x has a pre-test and if you do not pass, it says to not do the p[rogram until you are more in shape!

OMG dude. YOU really had a heart attack from something on GFY?
I am sorry

It seems that this program is like just about any other. Doing it, losing weight and getting fit is one thing. Sticking to the dietary changes and continuing to exercise and live a healthy lifestyle after you are done is another.

The reason so many people put the weight back on is that they lose the fall right back into their old bad habits.

Ha. Well, it was a stressful time. Had been scammed out of a pile of money, had my reputation smeared over it, etc. They did a heart cath in the ER and found out I have a myocardial bridge (a heart defect), and that I'm fine going forward.

Absolutely my point. There are no shortcuts when it comes to lifestyle change and it's marathon and not a sprint. Nobody here is going to do p90x daily or at least a couple times a week for the rest of their lives. But then again, if they knew that would they really be buying it?

I've lost over 60lbs and my weight bounces up from 1-5 lbs. WTS, I have kept the weight off almost 3 years and that is due to an all 100% natural diet and change up of exercise. Todays exercise was 3 huge dead ash trees on my property (14 more to go) I cut and split to a cord. Took me five hours and a new chainsaw blade but it was fun and beats the bowflex and treadmill.

.

P90x doesn't promote itself as a quick fix or shortcut, its all about lifestyle change. That's why there is much information on diet included. Why wouldn't someone do this program for at least a couple times a week for the rest of their lives if it keeps them healthy and active? I think you wrongly assumed because of the "infomercial" that this was some fad routine that was over hyped as a miracle weight loss cure, it isn't. Most of the people I know doing p90x didn't need to lose more than five pounds and didn't get the program for weight loss. They needed a change in their workout routine and this was perfect for changing things up and confusing their muscles.

I did it.. piece of shit

V_RocKs 07-12-2010 02:23 AM

If you have to ask... It will only NOT work for you IF you don't get it and use it as per the instructions.

It is that simple. Of course you could go to the gym and eat right and get the results. But you aren't going to and that is why you asked. Because even "the Donald" has to be told what to do once in a while.

More like you keep making erroneous comments about the program because you've never even bothered to open it.

The reason so many people put the weight back on is that they lose the fall right back into their old bad habits.

there's no program on the planet that can force someone to make lifestyle changes that last for the rest of their life.

to not start a healthy eating plan and solid exercise program because statistically most people resort back to old behavior is a defeatist attitude. why even start, i won't keep to it or i'm going to do this and make some changes in my life based on what i've learned and my results. so the problem you 2 are pointing out is a personal one, not necc. your personal problem, just saying it's due to factors outside of the p90x program or any program- healthy or not.

but the fact is, p90x is based on healthy nutrition choices (no hi-protein/lo carbs gimmicks, etc), effective heart and lung conditioning + resistance training. i've achieved more & learned more from it than from any personal trainer i've worked with for months on end. and more than any diabetic nutritionist i've sat with and designed an eating plan with that was impossible to stick with.

today, in my 2nd month after finishing p90x, my insulin requirement is down, my stamina is way up, i look forward to activity&exercise, my mood is elevated, etc, et al, on& on!

You are correct in saying that the problem I pointed out is outside the p90x program and is a problem with people in general.

I guess what I was meaning to say is that just about any workout/diet plan will help you lose weight and get in shape if you commit to it, follow through with it and understand that you are making changes that will last a lifetime, not just a few weeks.

I made changes to my diet a few years ago and started walking then I started playing racquetball again ( I hadn't played since high school) and I found myself losing a lot of weight and feeling a lot better. Now I don't work out in a gym, but I try to eat healthy, walk, ride my bike and play racquetball at least once a week and feel better than I have in years.

If the p90x program is helps a person make those changes on a permanent level, great! But I have a feeling there are a lot of people out there that buy the program, do it for 3 months, feel great then slowly over the next 6-9 months fall right back into their old habits and start putting that weight right back on.

bronco67 07-12-2010 04:29 AM

You might build some muscle, but it won't do anything that 40 minutes of cardio won't do for you.

There is no spot reducing!!!!!Crunches don't give you abs. They just build up the ab muscles under all the fat.

the majority who purchase it don't even start the program, fewer finish phase 1, and it's rare to see people who actually complete the 90 days.

so what?

i've been on bowling teams that had players drop out, softball teams, cooking class, it doesn't matter- people stop, new year's resolutions are not stuck to, etc. it has nothing to do with p90x. i will say that a person who does complete the program- both exercise and nutrition has a much better chance than someone who's done an atkin's program or one of the other unhealthy programs that are based on unbalanced programs.

look at the marketing messages we are all bombarded with- 7 minute abs, take a pill and lose weight, easy fat loss, get huge in 30 days. at least p90x is built on a foundation of healthy principles that can stick and be maintained.

I haven't done p90x personally, but I know with Insanity, I've wanted to get more active even after finishing round #1. And so I added running, some TRX training, and 1 hour walking in between my offdays. These programs, when utilized, will change the body for the good and make it much more difficult to fall back into the trap that so many are afraid of doing. I agree about foundation of healthy principles for sure. They get you set on the right path, and from there you grow with it and compliment it with other training, principles etc... :2 cents:

Posting again, because I'm in the middle of the program (week 3). P90X may not be a fitness holy grail, but it works great for me. As I said further up, I'm already seeing improvement in my strength and energy levels. All you have to do is press play on your DVD and do it, every day. It's just what I was looking for. I've tried gyms, personal trainers, etc... I fucking hated every second. When I'm in a gym, I just feel stupid and self conscious, like everyone is looking at me, and I can't relax. Being able to do this at home, with minimal investment in equipment is exactly what I needed, and so far, it works great. I can't wait to see the results after the 90 days, and then again at 180! It's also not as crazy for a beginner as you might be led to believe. If you can do most of the fit test, you'll be ok. They show you modified moves for almost everything to make it a little easier until you get used to it. They also show ways to make things harder. So far, I'm a very happy customer.

DirtyDanza 07-12-2010 12:01 PM

your all forget rule number 1 though..

these programs are made to make people feel better about themselvs and when they can't do something on the video 1 week and then next week they can.. they see an improvement and thats all that matters ...

keeping it on and off and what not... that is called management.. but the videos are great for those trying to get in shape for sure.....

One of the major reasons a lot of these different programs like 7 minutes abs and even nutrisystem fail is because they don't teach you anything. Nutrisystem just has you eat what they tell you. It is calorie and carb controlled, but they don't really explain that. So when you finish losing weight you right back to eating how you were before because you learned nothing.

It seems this p90x program actually teaches you about nutrition while also providing you with a workout which is a great combination.

Doug of Montreal 07-12-2010 02:59 PM

I've done it. Assuming you can get through the fit test, it's the best thing going short of getting a trainer to put you through a program designed for you. Make sure to work the diet and keep records of each workout. You can download some kick-ass excel sheets online. That way you will see the progress week by week.

j.chedda 07-17-2010 07:20 PM

P90x is cool. I tried it out. It will get you lean, but for me cross-fit worked out better because it will get you lean and strong. I also stick to the paleo diet fairly closely. The diet is great!!! Try it out ,every one is built differently, but I have seen great results from it.

My brother has been on the program for over a year and dropped about 70 pounds.
