                              The offer is legit. And one can use their own name servers - can host it elsewhere.

                              In addition, after 60 days, the domain can be transferred out; no need really though, since GoDaddy renewal pricing is about the best around when using coupon codes.

                              With all that said, for some types of sites, GoDaddy can be risky - they can and will suspend domains they get complaints about and/or contains/links to overly controversial content (even if hosted elsewhere).

                                                      Same here, never had to host a 99c domain with them, Plus I've never had a problem transfering the domains to a new registar

                                                          That would be a dumb thing to do considering how Godaddy is. I could see them seizing all your domains with them or doing something crazy like charging a $250 per domain fee to get them back. I do not consider GoDaddy a stable registrar because of their policies.
