I'm traveling a lot this summer. Need internet wherever I go, obviously.

What's your suggestion for mobile modem internet solutions?

Are you traveling in the U.S. only? Do you have a smartphone with a data plan that you can tether to your laptop? Sprint has a good service all across the U.S. and I can tether to my Android smartphone on their 3G network.

I use my Motorola Droid and tether it to my laptop with the PdaNet app on the Android Marketplace for when I need to get online when traveling , basically if your in an area where there's 3G you'll have internet. Works great for me when I'm in and out of hotels in different cities. If you just need the internet for traveling ie. Booking flights , hotels , checking email ... You can pretty much do it all from an Iphone or Android phone.

I've heard rumors tho that Verizon is trying to curb Unlimited data plans and try and take a cut of tethering (probably once they get the Iphone4) , I just hope their plans are reasonable.

I have an iphone, which does most of what I need - but some things I still need my laptop for (access to files etc).

Traveling in the US, I should have mentioned that right away.

Can I use the iphone as a modem somehow?

the OS4 for iphone can be tethered for something like $20/mo.

I use MyWi on my iPhone.

I am a walking WiFi hotspot.

Nice. I just remembered OS4, downloading now. If my damn sync would ever complete.

So, for $10 and assuming mywi works with OS4 - I can bypass the tethering option?

                    How's the speed?

I heard that some locations offer free wireless Internet connections, like colleges.

That post appears to have some sarcasm in it, as if you think I should know this already. I do, actually... and if I was broke and worried about where all the free stuff was, I'd give a shit.

I'm not planning my trip around free wifi spots when at the very worst I can get a Cricket mobile jobber for $40/month.

I'm not broke, and I prefer to pay good money for good services.... which is why the thread is titled "best way" not "cheapest way".

I'd spend more on cabs to take me to the colleges for the "free" wifi for fucks sake

how do you like the Verizon Wireless card? Have you had the chance to compare it to anything else?
