BigDean -

For the record, Ive been trying to get on for weeks, havent been on gfy much in that time. Very busy.

You guys just hate on me no matter what I do.... big deal. Bunch of people I dont know talking shit about someone trying to help, oh im crushed.

Ive been trying to get on for WEEKS. LOL this is all thats on my mind, so I made a thread about it. no worries, keep hating on me, it makes you look worse. As I said, was sitting at desk writing out supplies I need to take and made a thread. Who cares? just ignore me then, oh thats right, you cant.

And it looks like it could take another 3 weeks to get placed on a boat, these things take time.

Fletch XXX 07-01-2010 07:06 AM

K done with the haters and trolls for the day LOL this is a positive thread, a thread about someone trying to help - bash me all you want. At least im trying to do something, making a sacrifice. When this first happened, I began contacting hair dressers/barbers and collecting hair for oil booms, they cancelled the program so I wasnt able to help much (got 4 garbage bags of hair collected) but at least i was doing something to help.

Anyone questioning me about actions/sense of duty like this is silly, Ive been involved since day 1, meanwhile you sitting back watching TV eating Doritos.

fuck off, none of you who bash me are doing anything to help, at least Im trying to do something instead of being a useless troll on GFY. When one of you has the balls to sign your name on the list then come talk to me, otherwise go back to your television. Im at least joining in the fight to help.

/rant lol

Fletch XXX 07-01-2010 07:21 AM

ok - gotta run, wont be at desk until later - if anyone needs me please send email to fletchxxx @gmail.com

my days are quite hectic right now and I never know where i will be and if I will be at desk, so just drop me an email - also if i do not reply immediately, give me a little time - signal is terrible out here once you get near the water and Ive been runningback and forth trying to get signed on so I may be out of reach for a few hours at a time.

i know where we taking hazmat class may be out of cellphone reach so if I am in class I may be unreachable etc... just drop me an email and ill hit you back on my cell.

I have gfy on my blackberry but i get email notifications, its just easier. (on blackberry right now)

cya guys.

Agent 488 07-01-2010 07:24 AM

sounds refreshing.

Cyndalie 07-01-2010 07:39 AM

How many people do they have working on the cleanup these days?

I do not expect any respect from you, nor do I need any, my respect is earned through my actions... its clear you have personal emotions you need to deal with that my signing up has sent you into a personal attack on me.

You can sit back and do nothing, I am choosing to get involved, all you care about is whether you can go to venice to fish, spend your weekend being mr sportsman fisher, meanwhile im helping family save their livelihood... I got family cleaning venice right now, you should be thanking them for trying to help instead of being a little girl with your jealousy so you can have your fun weekends on the your fancy little boat.

I am not going to retort and get involved in troll posts from you, please just refrain from posting here any more if my actions bother you this much.

I shoulve ignored you but you are attacking me personally for trying to help. You do not know me, lets end it there, you said all you need to and so have i.

Why did you wait over 2 months to start helping your family ? If you saving the coast, the region, the world action you are about to take is so damn important why did you wait so long. Simple... you just decided it was something YOU wanted to do, so now that you want to do it, then everyone should answer this herotic, call to duty that you are doing, and those of us who don't are just little girl, week end fisherman lol.

God you are such the drama whore. I'm really not attacking you, just pointing out how you are one of those people that think EVERYTHING revolves around YOU!. It's not important till you do it, and everyone should want to do what you are doing, and i think you are on the borderline of thinking that people are even stupid if they don't want to do what Fletch does.

Funny guy, you don't want to get involved in troll posts but you say that after a couple paragraphs of trying to insult me, lol.

I, like the millions of other people who live down here will pass on going out in the gulf and trying to clean it up. I will leave the job for the people who know the water better than me and the people who need to make the money because they are hurting and can't make a living right now ( <- neither of which are you). I also wont critize everyone who lives along the gulf coast for not wanting to answer their "call to duty" like the great Fletch just decided to do.

If I did decide to go volunteer and help I wouldn't be posting about it on GFY trying to get props from people about this refreshing journey I am about to go on. At least if I did want "props" from people I would tell them WHAT I did, not what I am going to do. Damn, you can't even wait till you do something to try to get people to tell you " wow thats great, you great, you doing a great thing!"

Your post are childish, neive at best. "refreshing out on the water" " flat screens". I can't wait to you get down there, that is if you even go. We should start a pool on how long you last. I bet when you get back (after a couple days) you will have some bullshit execuse of why you not down there anymore and it will be a heroic reasons like you gave your spot to a guy whos family was homeless and you let him make the money, or whatever, I am sure it will be a treat. I know you wont come back and say " damn that was hard work, it was hot, and I couldn't hack it". No way. not your type, you have a server break with reality.

Please continue to insult me back if it makes you feel better, I know i'm just a "girl" and a "weekend fisherman" jealous of the man you are.... lol. then tell yourself you are too big of a person to "troll with me". :1orglaugh

Document everything you do, takes notes and lots of pics and write a book about it. It would be great if they had internet u could use on the boat and you can blog about things as they happen.

LMAO yeah right. You been trying to do something heroic for weeks but never mentioned it once on GFY till now. Sure we believe you. Yet all of your family has been down there for months now doing work, but some how you been trying to do it for weeks too but everyone else can do it except you.

You will never go. You just want to come here and tell people how heroic you want to be. Your family, who is actually doing the work has my respect. Not possers who want to be involved in what they think is the next "cool" thing so they can try to get some more attention for themselves, so they can feel a sense of self worth or importance.

Prove me wrong, time will tell. And the only thing that will happen is you telling excuses why you couldn't go. I can "pretend" to want to save the world too, can i get props for that.

pretty sure people on the clean up have to sign some kind of non-disclosure. could be wrong though.

guess it's a more interesting "i'm leaving the industry" thread than "sleazy can't afford my banners anymore so the wife made me get a job at home depot."

Fletch is a self loathing tard. the design game is slow and he needs work. nothing more nothing less. if you care deeply about something you dont take months to react it is that simple.

i cant stand people who know someone who helps and tries to take their credit.

thanks for the kind words those who understand, this is a sacrifice, yes it will be difficult, I never said it would be easy. Nor did I make it sound like a cruise... the first line was "not an easy task or easy work!" I know its hard work I have dozens of family and friends out doing it as I type this! Its a tough decision, but I feel I should help, yes, a sense of duty - to those who have no understanding of that and just sit back and do nothing.

To attack me for signing up to help is about as low as I can think of someone.

you havent done fucking ANYTHING. and you are preaching like you are the big savior on the way. that is the problem.

LMAO, signing your name is real ballsy. You think talking about doing something is a "sacrafice" "ballsy" "heroic" etc... You never going to do anything. Once you DO something then come back and brag about it, christ you haven't done shit yet and you already wore out your own hand patting yourself on the back for this sacrafic and hard work you have made. You said your family has been down there since the beginning, surely if that was true you could have already been working too if you had wanted to. BUt fact of the matter is you just decided to do this recently and since you now want to do it then you think everyone should. (world revolves around you syndrome).

BTW, i've never jumped your shit before. Never had a problem with you. I've ignored your usual dribble. But this time, your nonesense was indirectly directed at me and the millions of other people living down here. Your comments that everyone living down here should have a "call to duty" because the mighty Fletch decided recently this was what he wanted to do, is what prompted me to post. When you actually fucking do something, then come back and try to talk down to the rest of us for not being so brave and heroic like you.

Fletch is like a guy who decides out of no where that he wants to join the army and tells everyone about it and he is basically a "war hero" before he even goes to boot camp. He talks shit about all of the other people in the US who don't go join the armed forces and they are not patriotic like he is. How he will be making sacrafices and all the hard work he will be doing, and then last minute he decides it is not for him and quietly moves on to the next thing he can brag about that he "wants" to do, but never does shit other than try to make himself feel better.

You not reading the stuff because you can't dispute it. People like you who live in their own little world, which everything revolves around them can't handle being faced with reality. So when you can't argue your way out of it and dispute the truth, you just simply ignore it. So go play oil spill clean up. Make your lists, and talk about all the heroic stuff you will be doing on gfy, go sit in some classes, and then we will stop hearing about it because you will either never go out there and do anything or you will and you wont last 1 day. Again, with people like you, you can't handle the hard work. Instead you get your props inadvance without you having to do anything and you move on to something new when the real work starts.

You are simply looking for attention here. If you weren't you would have been out there doing clean up work weeks, even months ago with the rest of your family.

Your family = started working months ago, prolly doesn't run their mouths
Fletch = runs mouth about his call to duty, but hasn't done shit yet and likely never will.

Can't wait to hear the heoric excuses why you either never made it out there or you only lasted for a couple days.

"i couldn't work for corrupt big biz/big government!"

or

"the meals there were vegetarian only. didn't they read on gfy i am eating meat again?"

Watch this:

:warning:warning I hope you are reading at least this. :warning:warning

YOU WILL BE DEAD WITHIN THE NEXT 10-20 YEARS MAX IF YOU GO OUT ON THAT BOAT.

If you really care about your family you stay on shore. IT IS A DEATH SENTENCE!

If they put you out there on the high seas with that oil and dispersant without a respirator you will be dramatically shortening your life span. Need proof?

"The average life expectancy for an Exxon Valdez oil spill worker according to the CNN report, is 51 years. "

BP doesn't give a shit about your health and their only concern is to stay financially viable.

They are not allowing people to use respirators because they don't wanna be found liable for what will be called "Gulf Coast Syndrome". The entire Gulf Coast region is going to have cancer clusters and chronic respiratory illnesses from this oil mess. All the people who live near the fumes will be affected. If you have any sense left in your body you will not go out there.

If you go out there and get sick you have no one to blame but yourself. You have been warned.

Actually, we have the same training programs going on here in the Florida Keys, and I'm pretty sure they cost the same.

You do have to get certified as a hazmat worker, according to what they are telling us down here, and you have to pay for it yourself. It's like the fact that you have to pay to get your own CDL before you can be hired as a truck driver.

I heard about all this through a SCUBA divers/boat owners club that I hang with that has members in the keys.

It's cracking me up that you guys are all ragging Fletch about waiting so long to start helping (personally I couldn't care less one way or another about this), but nothing from you guys about the fact the the administration is only NOW accepting help from the dozen or more foreign countries that have been offering help, and equipment, some since 3 days after the fire/spill started.

I would think that the fact that the government, which runs the EPA and is supposed to be handling this, has been so concerned with the union vote that it took 2 months to start taking offshore help.... while the oil just keeps spreading and spreading.... would have you guys screaming from the rafters.

Really weird to me.

...and I say this as a very active diver/boater in south florida. My wife and I have already discussed it, and we will be volunteering to help if and when the oil gets here.

Quote:

BP is warning of a scam in which people are being offered training and jobs for a fee.

BP spokesman Neil Chapman said today that BP does not charge to hire and train applicants. He also said BP is working with local authorities to find those operating the scam and prosecute them.
I've heard a million times on the radio, that no one contracted to do oil clean up work is having to pay to work or pay for the training needed to do the work. Since everyone has to get their hazmat certs to do oil clean up work, I can't see how they say "no one has to pay for training" and then charge people $600 to take the classes they need to do the work. Sounds like a scam.

Fletch XXX 07-01-2010 05:39 PM

OK I have set up directory where I will be uploading pics and documenting the experience as I go.

http://www.ch33rs.com/oil-spill/

To clarify, the course is $600 but not only is it free for people being trained you are paid for your time there, so theres no confusion on that. I am not paying for any training, quit reaching. Not sure what class I am taking tomorrow, there is an 8 hour one and a 40 hour one, I have no idea - just told to show up.

Secondly, as I said, I have been trying to do this for awhile now, and the reason it is taking so long for people to get on the water is they were originally only hiring unemployed fisherman and people affected locally for these jobs. Actually that is still the unsaid policy, however, I am getting on with a Captain who knows me. He called my uncle two days ago and asked him if he knew any men who wanted to get on his boats... he said yes.

Since I am not unemployed or directly affected by this oil spill I still have not gotten a call from DRC. DRC is the contractor in charge of operations. Or one of them. I have been hired through friend of the family captain who is putting his 20 boats on the water and needed 40 guys. 2 to a boat + a captain. Got the call today, was not expecting it. I put my name out to everyone I knew, since my family has had to fire all their employees, I didnt want to infringe and take positions that would better go to those unemployed by this. My uncle had to fire his 20+ employees and then rehire them as oil spill workers, and there is no wya he would choose me over them, and that is also why I havent gone out yet until now.

Please, just stop with the nonsense and accusations you guys really have no idea what is going on here, you just want to bash me.

For those who are genuinely interested in my experience as it happens, please just bookmark and visit this directory: http://www.ch33rs.com/oil-spill/

I will update as I can, as I said, I have no idea what I will be doing, just told to "be there" in the morning. Rolling out at 6:30 am.

Ive been waiting weeks to get call from DRC, but nothing came. Finally got a call at 11 am today and was scheduled for physical at 1 pm. All I know is where to show up tomorrow, this is how its been for weeks. No one knows anything just being shifted around, I went to town hall one day, another command center the next no one can tell you anything, these type of emergency operations seem to be highly unorganized. Ive driven hundreds of miles back and forth from place to place trying to get involved.

Anyhow, I will post images as I can and photo notes to go with the images.

Thanks for the support, I will not let trolls detract from what I am trying to do here.

Good cuz there is a bunch of hate in here from people who aren't doing anything to help this whole mess. I'm so glad you'll be there helping and I wish I could do more. This is only becoming a bigger disaster everyday and that sucks!

OK I have set up directory where I will be uploading pics and documenting the experience as I go.

Thanks for the support, I will not let trolls detract from what I am trying to do here.

yeah drama queen we all live to bash you (again thinking everything in the world revolves around you).

Funny you say everyone down here should do the call to duty bullshit but then you explain it is only suppose to be those who are unemployeed because of the oil spill that can do the work. Make up your fucking mind. Which you are not unemployed because if it but yet you still trying to take someone's spot who is. Nice job asshole. People losing their livelyhood and trying to get on with BP and you trying to take someone else's place because you got a hair up your ass because you want to "make a difference" or either you doing it for the money, either way pretty shitty. Good thing you wont last long, if you even go at all so that spot frees back up for the real people affected by this disaster.

You are either posting about how fun it will be or how hard it will be, don't know if you got your head up your ass or in the clouds, you really sound like a 16 year old kid starved for attention.

You really are a disgrace to the people down here and the real people who have been affected by this.

my cousins post vids on facebook and it makes me want to get involved, every single day - so it was easy choice. Hardest thing will be being away from my wife and daughter, but working from home for 10 years has left me very, very, bored lately and I need something like this.

After seeing the white pelicans turned black (my cousins iphone vids) from the bay near us, I decided it was now or never, and went down to sign up. Its not easy to get on, you gotta take a BP HAZMAT (hazardous material) class (40hours) and take drug test, physical exam etc,... but in the end I keep thinking of my grandfather taking me fishing in these waters as a kid and there will be no fishing from them for a very long time - I MUST help.

My uncles/cousins have had to shut down their shrimping businesses, lay off all their workers in teir Fishing Charter businesses and there will be no work for a long time. Its a sad state down here and I have to help, I simply must. My family has provided the coast guard with camps to sleep and are even shuttling them (on airboats and flatboats) back and forth to drop off points and are heavily involved in the cleanup, so I really want to be a part of this.

That's great Fletch that you are able to not just say this sucks but actually are able to do something about it. I can only imagine the determination you must have to help the cause when it hits home like it has for you and your family.

Good luck and document what you can. It will be very interesting to hear and see your first hand report.

I like how there are google ads on the oil spil page already and it only shows 3 steps so far none of which consist of shipping out

My family is heavily involved in Boat Charters and Shrimping here so we've turned the boats into Oil COntainment Vessels and have been hired by various companies to assist in boom deployment and cleanup etc... tagging animals, all kinds of work.

Many people are trying to get on doing this, yes, but they are focusing on local people. So not sure of the situation with those you know, but I have plenty of family out on water as I type this.

After seeing so many in my family go, I have decided that this is something I shoulnt pass up. Spending weeks out on water sounds so refreshing right now!

Props for going to do it.

One thing that I know is gonna happen though is after this is all over, all those converted fishing boats are going to be next to useless for catching shrimp and fish. They will all be highly contaminated with oil and no way will they be allowed to be used again for fishing.

I'm betting that's gonna be the next big thing that screws over the fishermen out there that are helping do this.

Can I ask two real questions?

1. Are you getting paid by BP for this?
2. The $600 cost of the course you had to take, did BP cover that as well?

Seems like you and your family really care for your hometown and much respect to you guys for all the help you are giving. I just hope you guys will all be compensated and these bastards - BP - made to pay every damn cent possible for this disaster.

Good luck out there and stay safe.
