Weird Member Issue Email - What Do You Think It Means?

I just got this email from a member's yahoo email address...

"I have an account for PeckerPass.com and I tried to log in but forgot my PW and I just paid another month for the membership... how can I access my account? Tell me what you need and I will supply it to you, thank you."

So I looked up the member, based upon the email address he used to email me from.

I instantly sent him his UN and PW, but within seconds I got this auto response from Yahoo...

"If you get get this email in response to the one you sent me, this account has been deactivated and is no longer active. Thank you."

Any thoughts on this?

No way to contact him so bad luck for the customer I guess.
That is why you always should opt for a customer support ticket system

I wonder if you should cancel him now to prevent a chargeback... or if that would cause a chargeback?

if the email was deactivated, you would get a bounce back from the mail server, not a badly written auto-reply.

Good point.

Do you think there is a scam angle to this?

That's actually what I did, and then I got the fake message stating that their Yahoo email account was deactivated.

Perhaps he uses that email for sites he expects to get spammed from, so he setup that auto-responder thinking that will help him get less spam...just because you got an auto-reply doesn't mean the email didn't also get through to him though.

Another possibility, but if he is able to read my reply, then how does this reduce his spam?

Who knows....

Exactly, something is definitely off with that email. Very odd indeed

He would think that anyon spamming him, will get his auto-reply and remove him from their list?

Never said he was bright

He might legitimately have created that autoreply to let people know he's not using
that address anymore. It feels kind of like there might be a scam in there somewhere,
but I don't see exactly how. I'd say that replying to the address that he a) signed up
with and b) emailed you from is all that one can be expected to do. That said, sometimes
in such a situation I'll go to 411.org and try to give them a call or whatever. That's going
the extra mile, which isn't necesary, but sometimes builds long term customers.

I think this means Yahoo company deactivated the user's email for some reason.

Or: Someone phished the email address login then found a PeckerPass mail in there and thought they would have a go at getting the password for that too.

Is there an ip address match on the email asking for the pass?

hacked email, hacker searched in his old emails, found sign up email, asked for password to hack into his other accounts (people use same passwords on multiple sites)

this is first thing I thought about when I saw your post
