Daily Pill Can Reduce Risk of Getting HIV Virus by 73%

Daily HIV pill use yields strong results
Can reduce risk of getting virus by 73%

Of course any "answer" pharma would come up with would be at least a once daily pill. They see $$$

Left out two important things the same study noted:
1)You have to use THIS pill in combo with OTHER drugs to truly be effective.
2)You MUST take it daily..if not, the virus builds up immunity to this drug, and should you become infected, you won't be able to use this drug at all then.

Those are some nasty looking fingers..

With that said any advancement on this front is a step in the right direction.
              Sincerely,

AIDS is the best thing that happened to the pharma industry...they can treat people their whole life instead of cure them. Nobody call tell me they didn't or couldn't come up with a solution, if they wanted. But monthly recurring payments for 20-30 years, you can't beat that.

I hear you, but the problem with this thinking is that it treats an entire industry full of bitter rivals as a monolithic hive mind. If it were that easy to cure something, a rival company would just rape the recurring company with a once off pill. They would still make an assload of money and cripple a competitor.. The "tube site" to the monthly recurring payments if you will. People are far too quick to go to conspiracy theories. That's not to say pharma doesn't seek out recurring treatments first, but if easy silver bullets were out there, someone would be selling them, because hey, it's still making a sale on a bullet.

I don't think its that easy to compete big pharma companies as it is in other industries. Pharma is bigger than any mafia in the world and I'm sure they work that way also. So the big boys have an agreement between each other and they "kill" anyone who would dare to make their pie smaller.

You honestly, honestly, deep down think that a large pharma company could keep quiet if it found a one dose cure for a condition that A. would earn them multi, multi, multi billions of dollars, B. Take money away from their DIRECT competitors and C, given the collaborative nature of scientific work couldn't actually be kept off wikileaks when one of the dozen team of medical researchers that found it and whose lives are committed to curing diseases couldn't deal with the guilt of millions of deaths on their hands, making Hitler look like a pussy?
That the team that found it DON'T want the nobel prize and to be remembered for all eternity as heroes and saviours of millions? That the company wouldn't be known forever more as the curer of AIDS, a not insignificant advertising issue and couldn't use their cure income stream and the loss of their competitors to take advantage of them in other areas?
That's the irrationality you need to believe in conspiracy theories like this. It sounds plausible at first glance, but when you look a little deeper into it it just doesn't bear out. Big pharma are horrible, I don't disagree. They make tiny, tiny modifications to patents so they can extend their monopoly on them, they use poor indians as guinea pigs, they release products into the market that have a high risk profile because the costs of lawsuits might be less than the profits. In short they act the way any corporation acts when there is money to be made. But you have to draw the line at impossibilities.
It's like the incredible amount of people that think the car and gas companies have killed the guy that invented the water powered car. Seriously, many many people believe this. Just because it seems easier to believe that big money is stopping a (seemingly) obvious solution even in this age of the pentagon not being able to keep off wikileaks.

I don't see any conspiracy in this, just money making. AIDS pills cost a fortune each month and the person needs to take them until he dies. They couldn't charge $100k for a one-time pill, but they can easily make more than that in recurring payments. Thats hard to beat.

You're acting like all these companies are looking for one-off cures in the first place. More than likely, they are not. There probably was a day when they were looking more for a way to give a vaccine for stuff to deal with it once and only once, but once they realized it's much more lucrative to get people to regularly take pills, that's been what they seek first and foremost for any ailment or issue.

It's gotten to the point where it almost seems like they make up BS issues in order to make pills for them. The commercials for "Low-T" and whatever the pill is that's supposed to fix it are hilarious. "Getting older and finding you don't have the sex drive and vivacity that you used to? Something's wrong with you and we even made up a cool name for it: Low-T, yo. Take a fucking pill." No, it's called old age and/or you haven't been living healthily. One is life, the other is curable with common fucking sense.

At best, what they may do is come up with a one-off "treatment". Definitely not a pill. A treatment so they could charge you tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars for it, because there's no fucking way in any of our lifetimes that they'll come up with a cure for cancer/AIDS/anything else major and charge anything remotely inexpensive for it.
