Fedor may still be the best heavy weight in the World but sooner or later he's going to have to swallow his pride and fight the UFC's top heavy weights. It may as well be sooner while he's still in his prime. Fedor was the best in the world but the longer he's outside of the UFC the more irrelevant he becomes. He'll be forgotten by all but the hardcore/Pride fans I'm afraid.

WHy is the UFC all that matters to people?
There are lots of great fighters that arent in the UFC or that have just fought there once.
Dont get me wrong im a UFC fanatic, but its not all there is to judge fighters on.
I too though am waiting to see him enter the UFC and take on brock or possibly carwin if the 5th goes his way...
Pinning fedor against others like mir and velasquez though is a joke.
Mir isnt the top anymore, he might has well cut weight ...
Im still wondering If Lesnar is all that or not.
We know Fedor is... But Id still like to see that fight

Fedor has said himself he doesn't claim he's the best. He doesn't care about his legacy. He's done more than Brock (4-1) or any of UFCs top heavyweights. He's beat something like 6 ex UFC champs. It's funny people wanted to see Fedor fight UFC HW champs Tim Sylvia, AA, and Randy C when they were champs, now it's Brock. Two of those guys he did fight and demolished. Both of them left the UFC because they wanted too, not because they were cut. UFC champs keep changing but one thing that stays the same is Fedor, or has so far anyway.
The truth is Fedor doesn't need the UFC and the UFC doesn't need Fedor. I'm not sure how true it is but I remember reading somewhere Fedor owned part of M1. So if Fedor wants to keep making money after he stops fighting it's best for him to promote M1 as much as possible. So he's going to do better for himself fighting outside the UFC.
The UFC is so damn good at hyping up new unproven fighters they do just fine without Fedor. The UFC puts on fights that sell, the best fighters don't always get title shots, just look at the undeserved shots Randy Couture got. So I don't see how the UFCs top HWs are really the best of the best.

I saw Fedor fight live against Brett Rogers when I was in Chicago. Fedor is a beast! Got his nose busted and still KO'd big Brett.

That's exactly what I thought of it as well. It's easy to criticize him for that, but I think that's a part of the sport. Whatever you do there is risk. You can't always play it safe. If you smell blood you usually have to go in for the kill. If you don't the guys at home will be criticizing you for not doing so. There's always some degree of luck involved as well.
I still think Fedor is the better fighter. Even though he's getting older now and quite a bit beyond his fighting peak.Last edited by signupdamnit; 06-27-2010, 01:23 PM.

Good analysis but that's to be expected since you are or were a fighter yourself from what I understand. I think he thought he had him rocked and he was looking to end it with a TKO. I believe that's why he went in so carelessly which was still a mistake (he underestimated Werdum there).
Of course if the fighter is human there's always that chance they will get knocked out by a punch or submitted by a competent BJJ artist. Fedor isn't superhuman, especially not this older version of Fedor. Fedor is all class compared to some of the other champions and those in the upper ranks of say the UFC. I wish him the best, he seems like a great guy...I still say he is #1 in MMA.
