Whats the word with Sony Vegas and Windows 7?

I've got 8.1 and new computer with Windows 7. It's a nightmare and crashes all the time. Can't seem to capture HD and if I load too many clips to cut up and create movie it just crashes.

It actually sometimes just doesn't show the video, just audio. Updated the codec and everything, it's like so many problems I just want another editing video software known to work well with Windows 7 that can capture HD straight from camcorder and also insert multiple clips (100's) and be able to mesh together with effects to create the videos.

Any suggestions for good editing software known to work with Windows 7 64 bit?

Works fucking awesome. This is the most stable my video rendering has ever been. Windows 7 ultimate with Vegas 9 on 64bit.
