I'm getting a huge deja vu feeling. Didn't this happen to another fellow in the past year or so? Sorry, but four months is quite a while to be behind. It looks like they still have your backups for you, at least.

Like I said, i don't really care at this point. Everything is squared up now. I'll see what's left of my backups. But most of what I have that was actually turning a decent income were newer projects built since around the time of the old backups. If there's anything leftover that seems good for anything, I'll probably just liquidate whatever is leftover and call it quits.

Why are your backups so old? My host does daily backups. If I find out they are not doing them it will be their ass.

The backups are from February, which will save some of my older stuff, and I'm not sure how much of it yet. There's only a handful of projects I really want to see saved here, and most of the heavy work went into them starting January/February, so I dunno what will be recovered. I never chose to pay extra for backups. Again, my own fault.

It'll take a little while to sink in, but I'm just gonna get comfy and settle into my new life as a track inspector. I think it'll be best for me in the long run anyways. Now I'm gonna go drink some beers and have steak with my crew, forget about this shit.

Knew there was more to it, no chance a wipe would happen over a 45 days over late payment! Been with Phatservers for 4 or 5 years now and never any problems like this!

WTF?? I use them and I am never behind, but if I did get hit by a car or for some unknown reason did get behind this is not reassuring.

Funny that it would ever be ok to be behind with a service company, but if a sponsor is a week late or so people scream, whine and moan. Any customer who is constantly behind, causes extra work, manual checks need to be done and follow ups and so on and so forth. I bet margins aren't that thick so they could afford to give an unmeasurable amount of leeway. At some point it's going to cost them more work and greif than you're bringing in, and at that time every business needs to pull the plug.

To say something like "I got comfortable being a month behind" is horrible in my ears. That means that you are in fact profiting, and virtually got a month for free by always being late and in theory earn interest on "their" money by keeping it for an extra month. It's one thing if it's a one time occurrence, but constantly, no that's not fair. To say something like "I wouldn't have paid the second half, had I know my stuff was gone" is also a strange way of looking at it. You requested and used a service, a service they provided upfront in return for payment afterwards. They have bills, cars, houses and stuff too that they need to pay for. Don't abuse someone's good will, you used a service and should of course pay in full and do the right thing, especially since you are not going bankrupt and even having/getting a fairly well paid job.

I pay yearly and get an acceptable discount for paying it all upfront. Which is also fair, less billing trouble, less follow ups and they get to earn interest on money they have still not provided service for, so a discount is good for both sides.

Sell a few domains or whatever, pay the bill, recover your sites, sell the sites and walk away on the plus side. I can't count the number of times I've sold out and started over from scratch over the years. As far as hosting scale back on the needs there if you decide to keep them up and running. My eyes are always bigger than my apetite when it somes to hosting needs as most peoples are.

I havent been able to contact her since but coincidence I got a lead on her today hmm you might be surprised what you have backed up when you get around to looking.

Should build a list of all the sites, with asking price, - the payment owed to get the backups.

Sell it off, new owner takes over the server account, you make a few bucks, win-win.

I'm sure it's not worth 'less' then the server bill, so you will atleast walk away with something, and the buyer gets some older sites to play with, Amerinoc gets paid too.

In light that half was deposited and pending, even though JEwCat was behind it does feel a little shitty. I think a better policy might be to take the servers offline while awaiting payment vs just wiping everything. I also wouldn't want the wipe to be an automatic process.

Just my two cents, I can understand a service provider being pissed and wanting their money. I can understand 100% taking action, but the action seems a little hardcore when you could have had the same effect and retained the customer. You can't argue if you hadn't wiped his stuff he would still be hosting with you.

Again, I understand everyone's position and not saying 4 months behind is cool. I couldn't skip out on my power bill for four months, but then again if I was 4 months behind they would just cut my power, not knock down my fucking house.

Why? Jewcat should have paid his bills ontime. I'm sure his mom still makes his bed and folds his socks and all but the hosting company doesn't have to babysit delinquent accounts .

most hosting companies wipe servers after 5 days late. 4 months is incredible really.
