It is very sad to see the extent of peoples' desperation in Mexico. :( Having said that.......... the US is under no obligation to destroy their country in order to help poor Mexicans.

Illegal immigration is the problem of the Mexican government to open up and improve its economy. Only a handful of families get fat and benefit from the economy while the rest are forced to leave family behind in order to provide a life for them. If the US is serious about illegal immigration it should make an example of Mexico and help it become a first world nation by helping it destroy its monopolies and change the zero sum game mindset that permeates most third world countries (my own is not exempted).

That's the most effective solution. Focusing on penny ante shit makes good political theater but if you really want to solve the problem, the US needs to help Mexico out by getting its own financial house in order.
