Spill Baby Spill! - 2nd Rig Leaking Into Gulf!

Good times, good times!

In the wake of yet another possible oil spill in the Gulf region, the United States Coast Guard has decided to launch an investigation into the dark waters surrounding Taylor Energy Corporation's Ocean Saratoga rig, resting only 40 miles away from the Deepwater Horizon rig.

We probably wouldn't know about the BP spill if the rig hadn't exploded.

HOUSTON, Jun 08, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Diamond Offshore Drilling, Inc. /quotes/comstock/13*!do/quotes/nls/do (DO 57.50, +0.56, +0.98%) today confirmed that there have been no leaks of hydrocarbons from the semisubmersible drilling rig Ocean Saratoga. The rig is under contract to Taylor Energy Company LLC and engaged in the process of plugging and abandoning wells damaged when a Taylor Energy production platform was toppled during Hurricane Ivan in 2004.

As previously announced by Taylor Energy today, Taylor is continuing its ongoing well intervention program, using the Diamond Ocean Saratoga, with full approval from Unified Command. The well intervention program at Mississippi Canyon Block 20 is the result of the destruction of a production platform caused by a mudslide triggered by Hurricane Ivan. The platform was toppled by a subsurface mud slide triggered by storm surges with 100 foot waves.

As reported by Taylor Energy, the wells were covered by more than 100 feet of mud and sediment and only four wells were capable of production without pressure assistance. The associated surface sheen was minimal and never made landfall. As a result of deploying three subsurface containment domes and performing six successful well interventions, the initial average observed sheen volume of nine gallons per day has been substantially reduced.

Unidentified aircraft took photos this weekend that incorrectly reported an oil leak coming from the drilling rig Ocean Saratoga. At the time of these photos, Taylor Energy was actually conducting marine operations on site with a 180 foot dynamically positioned workboat for regularly scheduled subsea containment system drainage. The tanks mistakenly characterized as containing dispersants on the boat's deck, were actually tanks to store and transport the collected oil as it was pumped from the underwater storage system.

"The effort is continuing as directed by the Unified Command," said Will Pecue, President of Taylor Energy. "We have been working consistently and successfully with MMS and the U.S. Coast Guard to address the resulting environmental impacts of one of the ten most intense hurricanes ever recorded by the National Weather Service."

Diamond Offshore provides contract drilling services to the energy industry and is a leader in deepwater drilling. Additional information on Diamond Offshore and access to the Company's SEC filings is available on the Internet at www.diamondoffshore.com.

This shit is definitely a plan of some kind. Waaaay too many oil spills and gas leaks are happening all around the USA within the past couple months for it to be some kind of strange coincidence.

God forbid anyone recognize a pattern and say anything about it for fear of being called a conspiracy theorist whackjob.

This leak is old news. It's from a platform damaged in 2004.

Quote:
Casting aspersions on the companies that are fixing existing damage from a storm that happened some time ago and, it appears, painting their operations in a false light, along with alleging a "coverup" where a quick check of the facts appears to show precisely the opposite, is not "journalism" - it is sensational garbage that has no basis in reality.

9 gallon/day leak-

Taylor Energy said it continues work to plug offshore wells in the Gulf of Mexico that began leaking when its production platform was toppled during Hurricane Ivan in 2004.

The company is using the drill rig Diamond Ocean Saratoga, with full approval from Unified Command.

The leaks, originally estimated at nine gallons a day, never made landfall and have been substantially reduced, the company said.

Earlier Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the U.S. secretary of the interior said in an email that less than a third of a barrel of oil was leaking from Taylor-owned wells.

Media reports had surfaced that Diamond Offhore Drilling Inc. (DO) was dealing with a leak at a Taylor-owned oil well in the gulf.

The work had been under way before a government-mandated drilling ban that was instituted as a result of the massive BP PLC (BP, BP.LN) oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

considering its only about 50 miles from my coast, i could smell the oil the night it happened, didnt even have to see it.

not to mention the oil is already coating coastline not far from me, lol we'd eventually know. Not to mention the oil covered birds making their way inland... too much to cover up.

I meant we wouldn't know right away. They probably would have tried to cover it up -- but a spill of this magnitude will be noticed eventually.
