Gallup Poll shows largest Republican lead ever

With five months to go before the general election, a new poll finds that Republicans have opened their widest lead yet when it comes to which party voters prefer this fall. Gallup's generic congressional ballot finds that the number of voters who say they will vote GOP has jumped to 49 percent, compared with 43 percent for Democrats. That's not only the biggest lead Gallup has recorded for the GOP this election cycle, it's the largest lead Republicans have ever had in the poll, which Gallup has run since 1950.

Considering the Republican base's built with dimwitted southern racists....I'm not surprised they are all fired up.

When it comes to congress that kind of poll isn't too telling. Sure, it means the republicans have picked up steam, but here is another one also done by Gallup that shows the favorable ratings of both parties at near all time lows. The democrats are sitting at 43% while the republicans are at 36%.

So I think that previous poll in the generic election shows a couple of things: First, it shows that republicans are more excited by the upcoming election then democrats. Second, it shows that generic is sometimes better than naming a specific candidate.

Take for example the 2012 presidential election polls. When they do a poll that put Obama Vs Generic Republican it is actually a pretty close poll. However, when they do the poll where they match him against the big named front runners like Romney, Palin, Huckabee and Gingrich he beats them all by a decent margin.

Congressional elections are such local affairs that there could be a handful of states that are very excited and will could be very pro-republican while the many others are just not so the polls will show overall the republicans are way out in front when that might not be the case.

All that said, I think the republicans with either take back the house by a very small margin or they will come within a few seats of doing so.

Hopefully the repubs can get some control back. It will most likely push The President a little closer to the middle.

Republicrats vs Demopublicans... LibCons vs ConLibs (Canada) ..

Is it not glaringly obvious to EVERYONE by now that they are ALL playing on the same team? What does it matter if one compromised criminal group is ahead of the other in the polls? Politicians don't listen to the will of the people anymore, they don't even pretend to. It's time to walk out of the theater of the "Left vs Right" show people.

And the Democratic base is built up by incompetent, naive, and usually colored liberals?

Historically, our country has been able to get on the right track when you have a Republican/Democratic President and a different affiliated Senate/House. Hopefully the majority of Dems are gone come November.

Sadly nothing will change. We swap out one set of corporatist to another. We swap out one group stealing our economic rights with another that steals our personal rights, and sometimes each groups steals them both.

I disagree. If you have the same party running the country, nothing will change. IF you have two different parties, you start seeing some results.

Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act, Iraq War all voted and passed with overwhelming support from both parties. The only thing you change with one party as president and the other controlling the houses is the pace at which your rights are eroded.

Why oh fucking why can't we have candidates that are socially liberal like Dems are supposed to be...and fiscally conservative like Republicans are supposed to be?

Is it too much to fucking ask that the govt. work FOR us without spending and taxing us like slaves and at the same time keep their nose out of our personal lives? You know, the way the founding fathers kinda envisioned it?

What's our choices: A democrat who might leave us alone and let us live our lives BUT he will tax us so goddamn hard that we won't be able to do anything fun.
Or... a republican who MIGHT not tax us and let our businesses thrive, but he'll be such a religious nut case that the only thing we'll be able to do with our money is put it in the collection plate at church.

Where the hell is the libertarian party? Can't they find ANY candidates with personality and the ability to talk shit to get folks to vote for them?

Pretty much. We elect one group and after a while they tend to end up bloated and corrupt and we get sick of them for one reason or another, so we then elect the other group and they end up the same way so we then go back to the first group again, but they are the same as they were before so nothing ever changes.

The thing that amazes me that is that the parties continue to run on the same platforms, platforms they have failed to deliver on in the past and people still believe this time it will actually happen.

I liken it to how people sometimes are when they break up with someone. They leave that person because the person was driving them crazy. Then a few weeks/months later they miss the person and consider going back with them. It seems like all they can remember is the good stuff and happy times. They don't remember that person driving them insane and annoying the hell out of them. they don't remember the bad stuff, just the good stuff. The same with politics.

Currently the republicans are running on a platform of balancing the budget and being fiscally responsible. It is the same platform they ran on in 2000 yet failed to deliver on. Somehow they want people to believe that this time they will actually deliver. The funny thing is people believe them and will vote for them.

He didn't inherit anything. He spent over two years interviewing for the job. He spent 10's of millions of dollars to get this position and he made many promises to the people that he probably had no intention on keeping. He did set one record for president.
He took more trips on airforce one his first year than any president has ever taken.

Exactly. That's how it normally works. Haven't had a huge swing either way since the New Deal.

5 months to go and the Republicans area ahead, the Democrats should just pack it up and concede.
