[Updated at 1:13 p.m. EST] Joran van der Sloot has been arrested and is in police custody in Santiago, Chile, an Interpol spokesperson in Santiago told CNN.

Joran van der Sloot is a suspect in a young woman's slaying this week in Peru and was previously considered a suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba.

I wish for the both girls mothers/parents to be able to go to his jail cell and look him in the eye and they can ask him what really happened to their daughters, where one is buried and I hope he will tell them the truth and why he did it so they at least have that, instead of having to wonder about that the rest of their lives. Not knowing is pure torture for parents.

After that his cell mates may may ass rip him all day long the next 40 years for all I care.

I believe there was a video or something where he personally said Natalie Holloway was tossed out to sea, but was not admissible. This time the girl was supposedly found in HIS hotel room. This kid is going down.

He has new stories and thruths all the time and he will cry and say sorry on national TV. Now this. Doesn't add up. I can smell bullshit a mile away. He shows signs of a being a serial killer Dutch news papers say, they now want to know if any Thai girls are missing when he was in Thailand and got caught trafficing girls by a dutch reporter.

My 6th sense is going haywire here. He needs to be locked up. One less potential, I agree unproven, maniac out there. Now let justice take it's course and see if he did it or not.

Odds are against one highly intellectual pokerplaying drug using drug dealer with rich parents (father was a judge) and 2 dead girls in the other corner who died on the exact same day after leaving with this guy from a casino, after getting caught trying to traffic Thai girls into prostitution in Holland....

Last night on Nightline they showed a video taken by an investigative reporter in the Netherlands of this guy saying to an informant type that he had help dumping the first girl into the sea in Aruba. The vehicle they were in was completely wired for video and sound. it was unmistakable that he said this. He also said she went into convulsions and died ... but that's not really the point. The kid is cold hearted!

They sent the video to Aruba officials and nothing was ever done.

Dude should fry!!!!!

I really thought that Natalee Holloway's death was an accident. That Joran was there when she died, but that he didn't kill her.

But this arrest shines new light on her disappearance.

Of course someone is innocent unless proven guilty. But I would be very surprised if it turns out that Joran didn't kill Natalee and that Peruvian girl.

Couldn't get his killing fix back home so he goes int'l... pretty dumb.

How sick and rude can a person be to extorte the mother of a victim for money to point out where her daughters body is after he lied twice before? People like that belong in a very filthy Peruvian overcrowded jail.
