With all of the money our government spends on military nonsense, why the fuck haven't they been able to do ANYTHING to stop this devastating oil leak - OVER A MONTH LATER?!
I've been a big Obama supporter, but in this case I just don't fucking get it! Imagine a US enemy simply targets a handful of these poorly conceived deep water oil rigs. All of our shores and sea life would be gone in no time! This is ridiculous! Get it the fuck together already! |

They left BP to stop it leaking into the sea and BP have clearly failed. Not sure what the US government can do instead though.

The feds were on it with in a few days. Dont you remember how on day 1 jerk offs were trying to assert that this was Obama's Katrina and other stupid shit? So they came out on day 3 and the coast guard has been there ever since. BP is directing it.
As far as that goes, people are pissed as hell about the coast guard being BP's pool boy's. And I see their point especially with this shit: http://www.wwltv.com/news/gulf-oil-s...-94624594.html (check out Captain Edwin Stanton of the Coast Guard explaining why the oil was onshore and there was boom sitting on a dock and skimmers in trailers instead of in the water. Hint: he calls himself "slow and dumb"). But it's not like there's some secret oil cleanup crew that the government has and is not using. All they could do more of at this point is in helping organize and utilize resources better so there is no more oil coming onshore with unused boom sitting 10 feet away on a dock because some idiot is too slow and dumb.

I agree, it's very surprising they haven't been able to stop it yet. How will BP's finances be after all the lawsuits etc?

You laugh, but it's actually a good question. Are Jindal, Palin and the like ACTUALLY complaining that OBAMA has NOT taken over something? Holy shit.
Obama has a secret panel of deep water oil cleanup experts that he's not letting help. That bastard. Where is his gift certificate? ;)

This will not bode well for Obama. I hate to say it, but it is a solid black eye for this administration, and as many of you know from my postings here - I am normally a big Obama supporter.

Have the army corp of engineers build a cap, or a huge tube for redirection, or launch a bunker buster into the fucker, or who knows what else, but to think a stupid oil leak has stifled the entire US government and military is insane! To add insult to injury, Obama has signed off on more of this deep water oil stupidity, and has even granted MORE permits and environmental waivers, even SINCE this disaster has happened! During katrina some canadian rescue dudes offered help , didn't get any response , so they took regular commercial flights from canada to the area and saved people from the rooftops, meanwhile thousands of people right next door were doing nothing because nobody did anything.

Seems to me its typical of our times. Too much time wasted pointing fingers on responsibility. If you see someone dying on the side of the road from an accident, do you stand around and point fingers to see who's fault it is before someone jumps in to help? Hell no!! I wonder why our administration cant stop trying to assign blame and hold hearings at this time when someone just needs to step up to the plate and get this done. Worry about who has to pay the bill later.

BP could stop it in minutes like the Russian did 4-5 time with a small nuke. But, the gov't wouldn't give them another permit to drill again. So, BP is trying to salvage it and so far they are not even fucking close. BP wants that well so they won't seal it until there is tons of pressure from the gov't (who happens to be in bed with oil companies). I'd say another month or two and billions of dollars in damage to the fishing, shrimping and just plain nature in the meantime.

All I have seen are the same few pieces of footage and the "live cam" that seem to be on a loop. Im curious to see what ultimately happens in the way of new legislation, and increased oil prices etc. Has anybody even been to the scene yet? So far all I've seen are talking heads. Has anyone flown over the thing live?

The oil spill is a human mistake that caused great damage. Maybe a few wars are human mistakes, too. Good luck.

There is a very simple solution
Tell BP that their license to do business in the US is cancelled till they stop the leak Watch that hole get pluged in a week, maximum

they are closing local areas due to this, this oil is making its way into the bay near us and is destroying everything in sight. It has shut down multiple businesses my family owns and runs ranging from tourist fishing charters to shrimp boats that supply 3/4 of this nations shrimp. Iam without words it is destroying us.

When do you guys predict this leak will be truly sealed?
Do you think BP will be allowed to keep using the same rig? Does anyone think this incident will change our dependence on oil? Will Haliburton receive any fines for this? Will BP? When will the fishing and shrimping industries that this is destroying ever come back? How will this effect the word's seafood prices? Has Exxon ever finished the cleanup of their oil spill from 1989? Will Exxon ever pay their fine for the Valdez oil spill, even now, after the fine has been reduced to a fraction of what it was originally? Will the US EVER fucking get off its dependence of dirty fossil fuels? Etc, etc.... |

So what's going to happen? They're just going to let it all empty out? How many gallons were in there and how much longer would it take to empty if nothing is done sooner?

They rather let nature die then spend some extra money on preventing shit like this. People should hang for this.

If Obama doesn't harness the momentum of the recent and absurd supreme court decision that corporations should be treated as individual citizens, coupled with the recent coal mining disaster (based upon greed, deregulation and a lack of oversight), coupled with the BP oil disaster (also based upon greed, deregulation and a lack of oversight) to finally force a new direction regarding our energy policies, along with new regulations regarding overreaching corporate influence and power, then he is not embracing "the urgency of now" - a phrase he often referenced in his speeches.
If he can't use the above, to stage a sea-shift, then he is either incapable to lead, or maybe it is already just too late to prevent our country from being fully owned by corporations, and even the President of the United States is nothing more than a powerless actor in a cynical game of deception. |
