Chinese iPhone Factory Plagued By Deaths

"Labor activists have long said that Foxconn's problem was a rigid management style on factory floors, where the assembly line moved too fast and workers were forced to log too much overtime. Foxconn has repeatedly denied the allegations."

Woah, very sad. So they're putting up nets on their buildings to help reduce the suicide rate. Interesting. No talk of reducing hours or increasing wages or otherwise improving morale?

They also say that Foxconn is one of the better companies to work for over there. They other options must absolutely suck.

Ok, a closer look shows the factory employs 300,000 people. 10 suicides this year would not be out of line, I don't think. Looks like a bad spin against Apple.

So, what happens if you break the "no suicide pledge"? Strong penalties?

They make products for Apple, Dell, HP and a host of other big name companies.

It's more of a jibe at China and their factories than it is Apple or any of the companies who's products Foxconn makes.

The number of jumpers jumped from 12 to 15 today, with 2 people in a double suicide actually killing themselves.
