I wonder if the resolution in that TV is any good. I would think you could go dual monitor and get better realestate

I have to wonder about the quality, a 42" plasma along with the rest of the gateway package at that price is a little cheap. The plasma alone should be worth like $4k US minimum if it was any good.

That was sweet!!! Damn! What does it run? I was looking for a price, but I could not find it.

I still like the plasma thing Gateway has though. For my home use it would be awesome... I could sit on the couch and drink a beer and read GFY all night in PLASMA!! It sure as hell would be better then my 15" I am using for home use now! haha

I do wanna check that out live at a Gateway store before I would buy it.

Yeah I agree with ya pretty much. I would never use it for work. They just can hold up. I have all custom jobs at our studios, but after the crazy expense of doing that for the office... I only had enough left for a cheap $1100 Gateway for home. Their not bad, if all you are going is surf, but dont put anything on them, unless you get one of there $4000 mega systems. Those seem to hold up ok.

The only reason I would get that Plasma deal they have is because of the high amount of testosterone that pumps through my body! It's the "My dick is bigger then your dick" syndrome.

The plasma screen 42" is actually made by Samsung but is marketed through the Gateway brand. It got a shitty review. Always remember you get what you pay for. The Gateway sells for about 3 G's and is 42". How many other 42" plasma screens are there out there in this price range? Buyer Beware.

Gateway sucks, their customer service is the worst. I bought a $1800 system from them and in one month the hard drive went bad, they treated me like it was my fault.I got so disgusted I went out and bought a new hard drive for it. It was built with the cheapest dog shit parts and they charged premium dollars for it. Never would buy anything from them again.

The Samsug 42 plasma has a resolution of 852x480. PDF specs If your looking for BIG text than this would be your monitor. With the dual or tri displays, you can get your real estate up to 4800x1200. Pretty much any mid to higher end card has a dual display output model, and the drivers are easy to set up. If your running XP it will do it for you. You can't beat it for developing or timeline editing. I used to run a 21" monitor for work and a crappy 15" for tool palates.

gateway has a really funky issue with their harddrives, they just totally crap out on you. I went thru 2 on a laptop in a year with pretty normal use (corporate job) and the support sucked moose balls......

Dell seems to be pretty nice, I have 2 4500's at home with the nice flat screens.

Thats my story and I am sticking to it

Now I have a little guy who has a small store by me build them for me. He uses the best parts, takes great pride in what he does and when I spent $600- $1000 dollars with him it means something to him.

If you want a large screen with poor resolution then go plasma. There is a reason that LCD screens at the 19"+ are soo expencive. A 23" LCD is over 3k, that is due to the dpi. Plasma resolution is very poor. (Ever get up close to one at the airport? it looks like crap when your 3' away)
For 5k ( what a better 42" plasma costs) I would go out and buy four 21" monitors, and two video cards that support Dual output and have some serious real estate.

I've had nothing but problems with my Gateway laptop.

p4/2ghz 1GB ram..

The USB ports have never worked right and Gateway has no idea what the problem is.

Tons of other problems as well.

Never again... I should have bought a thinkpad.

Woohoo!
lucky dog.....

All I have now are a few 19" flat screen tubes...
Its also important to make sure your card can support a"wide" screen format.

A plasma to surf fro the couch with is a very cool idea

forget the plasma display if you plan to do any real work on it.

get a samsung 24" flat panel LCD. the display is crisp and beautiful, and you can run high resolutions up to 1920x1200 if your video card supports it.

yeah, they'll run you about $3k, but i picked one up a couple months ago and it was worth every penny - actually, now i want another one. dual 24" displays... yeah, that sounds good. =)
