    Facing deportation for stopping crime

    Just like the police tell you to do, Abel Moreno called 911 when a man began assaulting his girlfriend. Before the end of the year, he could be deported to Mexico for his trouble.

    Moreno, 29, of Charlotte made the call Dec. 29 because, he alleged, a Charlotte police officer was trying to fondle his girlfriend after a traffic stop. The officer ordered Moreno to drop the call and arrested him and his girlfriend for resisting arrest.

    Several things then happened. Five other women came forward to allege that the officer, identified as Marcus Jackson, now 26, had tried to molest them, too. Moreno was released after investigators debunked the resisting arrest charge. So was his girlfriend.

    Jackson was fired and faces 11 counts of sexual battery, extortion and interfering with emergency communication. Police Chief Rodney Monroe admitted that Jackson should never have been hired in the first place because of previous charges related to a restraining order filed by an ex-girlfriend. The local 911 system is under review because Moreno?s call wasn?t acted upon.

    And Abel Moreno now has a six-month deadline to show why he shouldn?t be deported, even though police acknowledge that his 911 call was crucial to their uncovering a dirty cop, and even though they agree that he shouldn?t have been arrested.

                              This is one of the reasons that so called "sanctuary" cities do not ask about immigration status. They do not want illegal immigrants afraid to report crimes for fear of being deported.

                                                  I'm not sure you "get it". If every illegal in the US is afraid to report crime because of fear of deportation, the cops get a free pass to do anything they want, as is evidenced by this case. Fortunately for the girl, the guy wasn't afraid. But how many crimes will go unreported now?

                                                      If you were in Mexico illegally, and you saw a cop doing something illegal, and reported it, the Mexican government would deport you.

                                                                      You're not exactly correct there, my friend. I've lived in Mexico for several years now, and have lots of friends that are here illegally and when they call the cops, nobody messes with them. Immigration is very lax in Mexico. What's more, if you're here illegally, all you need to do is prove that you have an income of $1000 USD a month from another country and you get your papers as an Non-Inmigrant Living Off His/Her Rents.

                                                                                  that's interesting. I know a couple that was there illegally, and they were deported. They had money also.

                                                                                  As for getting your papers, that sounds like doing it LEGALLY, doesn't it?

                                                                                  And for cops not messing with them.... I'm not sure what dreamland part of Mexico you live in, but the massive amount of abuse that the Mexican police heap on illegal immigrants from central america is well documented, and range from robbery, to rape... BY THE MEXICAN POLICE.

                                                                                      I'm saying I would never report a crime out of fear of deportation. Even if there's only a 10% chance of deportation, I wouldn't report it. Illegals here are no different. Crime in Arizona will be rampant if they continue down this path of "collecting Mexicans" for deportation. I don't just mean the rotten cops, but every other thug & criminal out there too is going to be able to do as they please pretty much. If illegals witness them doing something illegal, it's no big deal because they won't be reporting it. Makes for great victims too when you know they won't be calling the po po

I saw the crime didnt want to get involved so I called and left an anonymous report of something going on. Saw the cops appear and clean things up!
