will an external monitor use up more resources on a laptop?
I have a laptop that runs hot when I play video games (even with my chill pad).
I want to connect an external monitor to it. if I do will it make the laptop run hotter, or will it be saving resources on it? |

Probably won't make much of a difference either way. If you are connecting a larger, higher resolution monitor then one would think that might make the video card work harder.
But I have a little netbook connected to a wall mounted 1080P touchscreen and I can't tell a difference in heat output. |

How old is the laptop? Maybe give it a blow out with some canned air, perhaps its heatsinks are clogged.
