    the news hit cnn front page so i guess i can post about it.

    red shirt general shot in the head by a sniper.

    US embassy closed today. i was there monday to get some vital papers for my visa extension. we were gonna go next week but went early. good fucking thing!

                                                                                                      i was just down where this is taking place at the beginning of the week. its a pretty isolated area. the media is making it out to be a country-wide battle but its only about 4-6 square blocks or so.

                                                                                                      just avoid that area and there's no risk of gunfire. i had to go to the US embassy so there was no choice. of course now most embassies are closed until the "war" is over.

I was supposed hit the embassy this week as well to get pages added into my passport but it looks like thats not going to happen within the next few days. Hopefully they open it soon. One benifit this chaos gives us is an extra slow, slow season.

                                                                                                                                              the bkk battle hasn't changed my life, even tho i am only a few hours away, but its definitely changed the lives of the 30 or so people killed. anyone with family or a business in that area is relying on those journalists to tell them what is going on.

                                                                                                                                                                                          I'd never seen a dead body that wasn't a relative at a funeral before Thailand. In the same week I seen a twisted motorbike driver and a pickup truck in flames outside Don Muang airport. Look at reports during Songkran, a lot of Thais (and foreigners) think it's ok to drive drunk and during this holiday week the accident rate jumps to the thousands with tens sometimes hundreds dead.
