Cruising south along the coast at about 35mph toward South Beach.... Happy! Alex RyuLion, Elise, Daron and Brandy, Elesha, Jazine, and Vino on board.




Almost at South Beach now... passing some wave runners....




Anchored just off of South Beach... the water is 81 degrees, and if it wasn't for the wakes from ALL of the other boats out here, it would be dead flat. :-) It is so clear that you can see straight to the bottom 20+ feet down. After this, go around the bottom of south beach, dock up a Shuckers for a late lunch, and then drop anchor at the Haulover inlet Sandbar... Thank you god.

Nice stuff and that water is beautiful. Did you see any sharks while you were swimming that far from shore? I know I would be worried.......

We were only about 200 yards offshore, and no, we didn't see any sharks. Even if we did, it's no big deal. Sharks don't tend to feed during the day, no one had anything shiny on, and speaking as an experienced diver, I can tell you that sharks get a VERY undeserved reputation from movies and TV. They really are not dangerous compared to other animals in the wild.

We were only about 200 yards offshore, and no, we didn't see any sharks. Even if we did, it's no big deal. Sharks don't tend to feed during the day, no one had anything shiny on, and speaking as an experienced diver, I can tell you that sharks get a VERY undeserved reputation from movies and TV. What's more dangerous are the jet skiers going by real close to us while we're in the ocean..

Where are you based?

My boat is a very old hull (1978) 27 foot Wellcraft, but with a new 350hp V-8 Mercury inboard/outboard. The cool thing about the old hulls are that they are deep vee all the way back and built very thick. This makes them heavier, and a little steeper on gas, but gives a MUCH smoother ride, especially in choppy conditions.

I've got a 5.0 Mercruiser MPI, 270HP. Goes great. It's a perfect boat for what I need - day trips and swimming. Next week I'll probably go to Venice, Italy. It's only about 2,5 hours boat drive from where I have my boat!

For us, Bimini Island in the Bahamas is about 2.5 hours away, Freeport on Grand Bahama is about 4.5 hours... A little further is The Abacos, Key West, and The Dry Tortugas.
