Lawrence Taylor Arrested in New York Rape Investigation

May 6 (Bloomberg) -- Lawrence Taylor, a Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker and former member of the New York Giants, has been arrested in Suffern, New York, as part of a rape investigation, police said in a statement.

The Ramapo, New York, Police Department said it?s investigating a reported rape this morning at a hotel in Montebello, New York. Taylor, 51, is currently under arrest and formal charges will be filed upon the completion of the investigation, police said. They had no information about whether he hired an attorney.

Taylor, 51, was charged with rape in the third degree, which involves sexual intercourse with a minor, and faces a maximum sentence of four years in prison. He was also charged with patronizing a prostitute in the third degree, which carries a maximum sentence of one year.

Bail was set at $75,000.

Ramapo Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence said the pimp, 36-year-old Rasheed Davis, was arrested by the New York City Police Department on charges of unlawful imprisonment, assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Taylor, who paid the victim $300 after having sex with her, was arrested in his hotel room at 3:55 a.m. today and has been ?completely cooperative,? police said.

It?s not known if the victim was forced to have sex, police said during a televised news conference.
