To any americans who feel petrol is too expensive...

...I just filled up my SUV yesterday for $113.87 (70something liters). I'm gonna be trading it in for a diesel real soon I think.

It's amazing how gas prices rise so much. I remember back in 1997, the gas price was something like $0.40 for liter in Canada.

Most in the U.S. gripe when it's $50.00 for a tank of gas.

Yeah, my Z costs about $40 to fill up right now (with 93 octane premium), and my Rav4 is about the same. Even that feels like a lot compared to 5 years ago.

im considering the expense of petrol to be FAR higher than anything monetary.

it is raping my country as we speak.

I have a Chevy 4X4 pickup 2500HD turbo diesel that gets low 20's mpg even when pulling a loaded trailer. Diesel is the way to go. Holding more than 60 gallons of fuel I can go over 1200 miles between stops. (but my bladder can't)

Prices will have to go much higher for American's to be willing to truly put effort into funding alternative means such as trains, hydrogen and electric.

A lot of American's say they believe in alternative fuel but few are willing to spend the money for the conversion to these alternatives.

Until our energy prices go super high nothing will happen.

I have never been to Europe (which I hope to change relatively soon) but my impression is that Europeans enjoy great public transportation and destinations that are relative close like groceries within walking distance and such. Americans, the vast majority of Americans have to travel much longer distances and no access to public transport. It is different in big cities but for those of us not in metropolitan areas a car is our only means to get to the places we need to go.....We spend a lot of money on fuel, just considerably less per gallon

Around here it's usually cheapest on Thursday. There have been numerous anticompetitive investigations into price fixing but no one in the govt seems to be able to figure out that petrol prices changing around the RETAIL market (not the supply prices) are highly suspicious...

I live in a very small town..... the population is under 6K but is spread out over a pretty large area. Lots of it is rural and the area could not support public transportation. We have vans that will help out the elderly and infirmed to get around but that is it. Americans also seem to be pretty strong opposed to paying taxes for improved infrastructure which would include public transportation

If you live out of the city you are reliant on your car also. Not everyone lives next to a bus stop or train station that actually goes anywhere useful.

He used to delight in giving me a hard time about how Americans were 'obsessed' with their autos. It was difficult trying to explain to him that not only do you practically have to have a car here, but it better be reliable.... he told me he thought it was foolish and very American.
