That's how freakin cold it gets.... without it, the car often can't start.

They have them all over Canada too - I'm sure all over any cold locations... go pickup food, you can plug your car in, park for work - plug your car in, park it for the night and want to make it work on time, plug your car in.

I have one on a pickup I use to have and it was to heat the block to keep it from freezing.

So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
think about that

It is not to save the battery...it is a block heater so that your car will start in cold weather.

That's a block heater, as mentioned above.

It keeps your engine warm so it will start in the cold. Keeps the oil thin so the engine turns over easier.

You can get battery warmers, too. But if you have a good battery, and a plugged in block heater, the oil will remain thin and even a weak battery will start the car.

I have acquaintances in Northern Canada that will actually leave their vehicles running 24/7 in the real cold months of winter. It can get chilly up here!

i grew up with block heaters. my 911 does have an actual trickle charger that plugs in to the cigarette lighter though. it's parked 6 months of the year, so, the battery dies without it.
