My Racoon Pics -- Her name is Lil Mama
When I first bought this place last year she would drink from my water fountain on my back deck. If I did not give her cat food she would eat all my birds food. I watched her raise 3 babies last year and now she sleeps on my back deck every night. Here are some pics from tonight. I have a laser pointer that she will chase all over haha. I need some pics of that.

Feeding/domesticating wildlife is illegal in a lot of places. Check the local laws and be careful who you tell. People do get in shit for stuff like this some places. Did it all the time on the farm when i was a kid, and it is cool and all, just wouldn't want to get nailed with a fine for feeding a raccoon. Though it would be pretty hard to peg on you.

You really shouldent feed them, if you at some point stop you could have damaged their ability to find food for themselves....or get agressive towards humans.
Wild animals can be cute, but keep them wild /Speech lol |

The males raccoons we have around here are huge. Usually the females here are pregnant about now and disappear until early summer when the babies start getting out. They love to bring the babies to my pond and try to catch the trout. With you feeding here be watchful that she doesn't try to make a den somewhere in an attic, etc.
I don't put out any food so the ones here don't like me too much.. they'll growl and make a barking noise.

Damn you've got balls of steel man. I had a friend try to take a pic of a racoon once and as soon as the flash went off it chances him. Be careful. Very cool pics though

Be very careful, especially if you have other animals that interact in any way with not just the Coon, but it's leavings... Leptospirosis has been rampant in north america this year.
http://www.medicinenet.com/leptospirosis/article.htm Very cute though otherwise. Just be careful, and get any animals you have vaccinated. |

My raccoons have cost me thousands. My A/C is on my roof and they keep prying the vent open to get at cool air in the summer and warm air in the winter. They did it really bad this last winter so I had the entire thing replaced and had them add extra metal so they shouldn't be able to do it again. They are cute, but they can also be very destructive.

Feeding a racoon that's living in your yard is about the dumbest thing you could do. Cute or not, racoons aren't safe.
This is probably the most retarded thing I've read on GFY in a while. |

She is harmless. If I don?t put cat food out she eats all my bird food and makes a mess of my flowers. She keeps all the other raccoons off the porch as well. She acts like a cat and will rub against me and never acts aggressive at all. She has been here since she was a tiny baby so she is used to me.
I called local animal control a few days ago and they are going to come out and live trap her and give her all of her shots like they would a wild cat and set her back out in the wild. It?s easier to buy a $7.00 bag of cheap cat food and out it out when I go to bed. Then I still have bird feed, flowers and my garbage intact when I awake. I know I probably should not feed her anymore, but she is too cute right now.

My wife did the same thing.
Then one night she inadvertently spooked it as she went outside and the coon nipped her just enough to break the skin. At this point you now have only 2 options. Kill it so it can be sent off and have it's brain analyzed to see if it has rabies. Or just go ahead and undergo the series of very expensive rabies shots. Moral of the story: Don't feed and try to make pets out of raccoons. |

I'm surprised it didn't attack you when the flash went off.
Not a very safe idea, no matter how docile that thing is it's still a wild animal. Cats and dogs have been domesticated for years and you still hear about them (dogs usually) killing people. |

Raccoons are actually very intelligent and affectionate when domesticated. That still doesn't make it a good idea to start feeding a wild one at your home, for numerous reasons.
