Brick & Mortar - own something, plan to, ever have?

    Heyo

Just curious if anyone here owns a RL business... trying to brainstorm some ideas for a small business that doesn't require you to work for your money (like a skill-oriented business model) and instead has your money work for you?

I was thinking about a battery store - recession proof kind of stuff like that.

Just not sure what would be a good thing to start to just supply some steady income and will only give me a small headache rather than a big'un.

    Thoughts please!

    Thanks

I think you are in for a big headache regardless of what you choose. No easy money. If you aren't going to go balls deep, don't do it.

It doesn't have to be so black & white! There is a distinct difference between rolling up your sleeves to get the work done that needs to get done and constantly having issues left and right that tax your time, life & energy to deal with just to keep afloat....

I started my ex gf an accessory store to get the bitch out of my hair. Seemed to do ok, sell cheap crap from china at a high markup.

Have to present the merchandise right, more a female business but you could just hire hot chicks.

              Does NOT translate to:

              "easy money"

101: when you operate a business that revolves around a skill you provide; electrician, plumber, bicycle repair, mechanic etc. etc. your only commodity is the TIME you have to APPLY your skills to bring money into the business. This model is not conducive when you have more than one focus and are looking to diversify.

I'm pretty competent with my hands but I don't want to spend 14 hours a day working on small engines for peanuts...

I can illustrate just fine & thought about doing tattoos but I don't want to spend 14 hours a day dealing with people...

              see what I mean?

I took over a Deli a few years back and sold it before I could lose anything sufficient.

Some friends opened up a cupcake bakery a few months back and they have HUGE demand and can't handle opening a new place. So...I'm in the process of scouting locations for what will pretty much be a small franchise operation.

They've sold almost 35,000 cupcakes at $3.25 in 4 months, selling just in the evenings part time...so I'm pretty confident that this small $ investment and a bit of time could pay off quite nicely.

                Spend you some brain.

It really is. One of them bakes and the other works a full time job. They open the store at 5PM and sell 400 or so cupcakes a night right now, most night's before 9PM.

They haven't spent a single dollar on advertising, just Facebook and Twitter.

Back in the day I looked at a Coffee franchise. I think we figured I would have to sell 30000 cups of Coffee a month to make it worth my while. Fuck that.

Nice man. Harnessing the power of social media, I have seen a few good stories like that.

I never would. What sets us apart from the rest of the world is we can leverage the internet to make huge profits without the time commitment or overhead of a brick and mortar business.
