Reasonable web designer rates?!

just a curious question, what do you guys consider reasonable web design rates these days?

I see guys working for $7-$15 p/h and doing below average/average work, but getting lots of orders in and also guys who are charging $25-$100 p/h who are doing excellent high quality work and not getting so many orders in.

I myself average out at around $50p/h especially with PHP coding.

What do people consider to be a good average rate or are you sold on quality of work and potentail to convert rather than price?!

I typically pay per project. Not per hour.

That said, it also depends on how many pages, and the size of the website in regards to "fair".

i understand, but even paid per project i usually estimate the number of hours required and multiply it by my hourly rate.

Too many guys sell themselves far too short and then are stuck with those rates for the foreseeable future, its a big mistake to make when you are starting out. A designer with skills who looks past the design only and thinks about how the design will make his client money is worth $70 an hour at least.

There is no set rate. It depends on the project and the expertise of the designer.
