Video Editing Software Recommendations
OK, I have been looking around at different video editing programs and not exactly finding what I want. I have been using Ulead for years, but now that they have been taken over by Corel, they aren't updating my program any longer. i
What are your recommendations? Here are the capabilities I want: lighting & color correction / enhancement (duh) a "smart blur" effect (soft inside blur with defining edges) bath processing (not batch conversion but processing multiple project files) it's the last two the have me stumped. If I could find a program I like with batch processing, then I am hoping I can get thrid party plugins for the effects.... help please!! |

![]() It really depends for me.
On first run new material I still prefer working with Adobe Premiere. However, I have to do clips one by one. I prefer the quality I get, and can also watermark all in one. When it comes to doing re-run clip stores and sites. I use Sorenson Squeeze and VideoCharge for compression and watermarking. Mainly because I can do 10-15 clips all at once. Plus in VideoCharge, I can cut them into sections without re-compression. |

Premiere Pro is a monster right now. And CS5 with the Mercury Playback Engine that is all native 64 bit is available as of April 29th. I already have my copy pre-ordered.
It's expensive but the features are awesome. Pretty much anything you can imagine doing, you can do. And if anybody out there is working in DV vid only and looking for an editing solution...I have my Edirol setup for sale. It is BAD ASS. It's a stand alone direct linear solution that requires no computer and doesn't ever crash. Doesn't do HD though. Only DV. So when I moved to HD I no longer had need of it. You can see it here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...STRK:MESELX:IT |

I am really debating it Robbie.
Yeah Matt the old Ulead MediaStudio.. love it! But I am also used to it. I am playing with the free version of Sony Vegas now.. I don't see how to batch process & I don't want to graph my color corrects. |

I used vegas for years as a video editor, I've seen people do amazing stuff with premier as well but it isn't as user friendly i find. Last I checked it had batching capabilities as well.

Yeah you can't really go wrong with Premiere Pro but it's expensive and might be overkill for what you need.

Vegas is much different than the way standard editors work, however I find it much easier to use. I love Vegas but moving to Premier or Final Cut will be a bit different if you ever do. That said Vegas Pro is just as powerful.
