    NY Doorman strike?

Someone will have to explain this to me as I've never lived in a doorman building.

these are the guys in uniform who stand in the lobby of residential buildings and open doors for snobby people, they will also accept your dry cleaning, packages, hail a cab for you, and announce your visitors. The job usually starts at $15 an hour with okay benefits. I lot of Handball players I know are doormen...and do very well at Christmas time with tips.

Dont hate. Its not just for snobby people. I dont live in the upper west side. I just hope my doormen dont go on strike They really are a huge convenience

To the OP. They are in a labor union. The labor union negotiates there pay and benefits and such. The contract they have right now for labor is expiring with building owners and they are trying to negotiate for more money and better benefits.

We have a Valet service though, they take our dry cleaning, they do wash and fold laundry, they accept your fedex packages, they have cleaning ladies. So on so forth.
