Normally, I delete most spam without reading it, especially porn spam, but this one had me wondering. First because it is beasty porn (Illegal, I thought, at least here) and second because it promised to be "totally free". Yeah, sure, but I was curious what their gimmick was.

So I click on the link, and sure enough, there are girls posing with horses. Not illegal at all, I guess, but here was the funny part. They only want a diver's license or ss number. Nobody I guess would be stupid enough to hand over a real one, but I was curious how you could possiblky make money off that???

So after selecting "drivers license" I get the following message - priceless!!!

We are building a new system for you guys without credit cards. This new system will allow us to verify your dl or ss number electronically and will reduce verification times to 12 hours or less. It's still not as fast as cc or check but that's only because we have to wait for you to fax us copies. From the time we receive that, it will only take us 2 hours or so to verify and send you your user and password! The new system will be up on Sat 04 Jan 2003.

We apologize for this inconvenience and are working hard to reduce the wait time for you. So either come back on Sat 04 Jan 2003 or if you absolutely want to get inside right now use a cc or personal check for age verification and you will be in within 2 minutes.

these guys thought of that. When you click on the link in the email, you go to a "throw away" ip address. Then you get a javascript redirect to the real address.

I'll bet a donut that they sent the spam of a friday night, when most isps abuse departments are sleeping. On monday the 5,000 spamcop complaints will get the temp throwaway account closed, and they'll be back in business next friday.

I'm gonna do a test, but I bet the spamcop header software only reports the throwaway address.

To much wasted time on trying to catch them, and most likely it's the sponsor themselves, or an affiliate that has cleared the spam with the sponsor. Put your time to more productive use, and making money.

No, its not that I waste time trying to catch them, just that they cost us all money.

You'd be surprised how many surfers are afraid to click on porn links because of pop-up hell, dialers, or scams like this one. So they just assume all internet porn is scams.

The sooner the industry gets cleaned up and about 30% of the sites shut down, I figure the legitimate providers like me will make more money than over.

Fucking over the customer is not the way to go in my opinion - I wish these pussies would just go rob a bank or something.
