First ever British PM tv debate about to start

My predictions are that Clegg will come off the most reasonable because most people haven't heard much of him in the past and he doesn't have to worry about actually being PM. Brown will pull a Nixon and will suffer from not looking as good on tv as the other two. Cameron will come off too slick and polished.

Nobody will really change their vote based on it.

Yes because in a parliamentary system nobody is voting for the actual party leader apart from his (or her) own constituents. You vote for your local MP and then whoever has the most MPs is the ruling party. The party then votes for their leader and that leader is the PM. Things are taking a much more presidential path these days (many would say not for the good) and these debates are reflecting that.

Ah, but I take it if you vote for one party, then you expect that party to name its leader as PM if they win a majority... Still surprising they haven't had a PM debate, makes for some good TV moments

Yeah, that is how it works really. Which is a bit sad because then people don't know who they are actually voting for which is their MP. I actually had a bit of an angry exchange today on Facebook (of all places) with my local Labour candidate on why she hasn't even visited my area in her campaign. Yet, we are suppose to vote for her. It allows MPs to be 'faceless' and get away with things they couldn't if people actually knew their face.

pfffft. That wasn't a public debate, but more like a sterile round robin Q&A session.

pathetic all of em.

I guess one can say that the electoral college is somewhat similar to that.
