Parallel or BootCamp? To run Windows on a Mac

So some cam companies are on PC platforms only.....? I am breaking down. I am either going to go out and buy a small laptop, which I prefer not to carry two since I travel so much. Or install windows on my mac. I have heard mixed reviews about running windows on a Mac. Any suggestions, thoughts, or experiences....I would love to hear them. I am all bound up over this problem.....

    Firstly, Hott pix ;)

Secondly, parallels has gotten to the point where it can utilize most of your computer resources directly (video card, etc) so performance has increased with it's virtualization and it's not a bad solution to run Windows with. However, it is still emulated and some cam programs may require actual physical hardware drivers and have Windows natively run. That's where bootcamp would come into play. All in all, boot camp is free with leopard and all you need is a windows disk, it will handle the rest and it's very easy to get up and going once everything's installed (Apple has a driver disc with all the drivers for your mac). Hope that explains it. Good luck!

I run windows 7 64bit through boot camp on my Mac Pro laptop, runs like a charm, only problem i have is considerably less battery power. In Leopard, ,i get a good 7-8 hours, in Windows, i get a good 3 -4 hours if im lucky, all depends what your doing. But in terms of results, both operating systems run perfectly side by side on native installs :-)

I've had more success with bootcamp than parallels. I used parallels for awhile but it seemed to freeze up and crash more frequently than when I use bootcamp. I still hate having to use windows, but there are 1 or 2 cam sites that won't work on a Mac OS.

BTW if you are trying to run the Flash Media Encoder it is now cross platform:D

+1 for VMware. I have it running on a second monitor and have no complaints.

I am reluctant to put windows on my mac......I might just go buy a PC.....I heard maintenance can be a pain....I know PC's are just a pain in my ass anyway.....I would hate to "infect" my mac with windows.....I am so torn on what to do...

Any recommendations for a small lightweight pc? I will use it solely to broadcast cam shows

Have you looked into the little netbooks? They're pretty cheap now a days and most have built in webcams. Brand new from best buy it should only run you a few hundred bucks.

Best option is dual boot using Bootcamp.
