Security camera software suggestions?
Just opened and office and need some recommendations for security camera software. Rather not use a DVR. Would like a video card with inputs for 4 to 8 cameras as well as software that can record to my hard drive and possibly stream or upload to a webserver incase they jack my computer. Any suggestions? Can Active Webcam do this?

I'm using blue iris with 3 wireless ip cameras right now. going to add one more soon.
You can view them over the internet, send snapshots on movement, (via email or ftp), record video on movement, etc. etc. blueirissoftware.com <-- they have a trial so you can test it out. works fully for 15 days with no limitations on the trial. Keep in mind I am just using a couple chinese cams off ebay and a dlink. If you want really high quality video then you can step up to something like a mobotix ip camera, which should have really good software included with it already. But my whole system costs less than one mobotix camera does. |

Check out logitech's web/surveilance cameras. Very handy and easy to use, can stream real-time to the web. Fairly modest pricing also, plus the benefit of a fully functioning system, so there's nothing to go wrong somewhee on compatibility, tweaking or so. I can really recommend it, have one at my summer cabin and one in my European apartment. Excellent.

Axis are very professional and high end cameras. If you have the money, go for it, if not, look at Logitech.

I build systems for friends all the time. I recently build a pretty nice hacknslash version you might be interested in. Total cost $1000. Its very very simple. 4 acer netbook/laptops, using the built in webcams as security cams. It seems foolish but is actually quite neat. They all run yawcam ( free software ). All cams can be checked via cellphone or web , all have motion detecting or reverse motion detection, snaps are sent via txt message when an alert is triggered, snaps are also logged to ftp, motion detection can trigger any exe you want so possibilities are pretty endless, use this http://www.productwiki.com/usb-power-bar/ to do things such as start floodlights when acticty is triggered
