    iPad: If you got one, step in - if you haven't yet, you may want to wait...

    I got one over the weekend. After a couple of days of using it, here's my overall impression:
    • Screen is smaller than I expected (about 1 inch too small IMO)
    • 12px text appears a bit too small when viewing '1024x768 websites' in portrait mode (I'm sure this is the preferred mode for most users since it gives you more vertical viewing space)
    • A bit too heavy for one-handed use - if you hold it with one hand it's only a matter of seconds before you end up resting it either on your lap or stomach
    • No "killer app" yet - the hyped up Wall Street Journal app is pretty disappointing, not to mention somewhat clunky and challenging to navigate
    • You'll never want to "do work" on this device - it's NOT a laptop/desktop replacement.


    Pros:
    • Beautiful design, as expected
    • Fantastic battery life - i used it for a few hours and it still had 85% battery juice left
    • Great for casual browsing (news sites, facebook, etc.) as well as viewing photos, videos, etc.


    Get it if:
    • You've been itching for a new toy
    • You're a web designer
    • You want to get an early start in experimenting with iPad traffic


    Don't get it if:
    • You spend money only on things that you need
    • You thought it'll replace your work desktop/laptop
    • You like to wait for other companies to test out new markets before you enter them



    Although it's not revolutionary in the traditional sense of the word, it has the potential to become people's porn viewing device of choice - so, your safest bet would be to get one.

      Myself & Natalie were talking about this & thought the similar things. We can imagine it being very annoying with the angle that you would have to look at the screen & work. Maybe sitting in bed with knees up... nice but otherwise, sitting at a table your neck could hurt after an hour of work.

                              And if its such a problem to watch porn with a hand helf device how is the iphone doing so well? Ipad will be the prefered method for porn soon enough. Lets see put it on a stand turn the video on and be anywhere you want?

                                  I got it because I knew what it was and I saw it as a toy/gadget to browse the web and other things. This will change a lot of things about how the average surfer gets online I think. This will not replace the laptop or pc but it is 100 times better for surfing the web than a netbook. Ipad will be like Iphone in that it's not the first smart phone out there but it for sure will make others hurry to put out a product better than it cause past tablet pc's are a joke.

                                  I downloaded a mp4 porn clip sat night and added it to my ipad via itunes and it played nicely. I have also watched it streaming from the same site and it worked perfect too.. my only complaint is the video is like going back to VHS since video is 320x240 in most mp4 downloads and ipads don't play vids that size. Don't know if it would be worth it to add a larger res mp4 but maybe in the future if ipad really takes off

                                      pretty much how i feel about it. its good for having around at night on the couch to check stats and surf lightly. it's good for vacation and going to a trade show, for emails and what not. nothing can replace my macbook pro.

                                      not sure why some people around here are making a huge fight of it's release. it's quite dumb actually. big deal. it's 499$. i got mine just to play with it and see what i can do with it, and to project future generations additions for my own devious reasons. other than that, if you can't justify the 499 bucks as some sort of an entertainment type expense, wait a couple years. really not a big deal at this point. 1st gens never are.

                                      overall, it's a cool toy so far.

                                          Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants

                                              the MAIN reason i even bought it is for the reader.

                                              i read ALOT and the reader looked in the demo Job's did to be the best thing for me.

                                              I LOVE IT. It kills every other reader, hands down. Not even a question.

                                                              I love it when people give this as a con. Of course you can't do "traditional work" on the thing. That's like giving a review of the Mini Cooper and saying you cant haul your horse trailer so it's a con. It's not meant to do major work on. The vast majority of the population uses a computer to surf the net, pay bills, social network, email, porn and forward stupid jokes. And for that consumer the ipad is perfect.

                                                              Not only is this thing (and future generations of it, along with other tablets) a netbook killer, but a complete game changer.

                                                                              you can watch it streaming. If you want to have a porn collection you have a pc with a external drive.. if you want to jerk off while your roommate or gf is out you can do it streaming on a ipad

Sure, right now its a bit like a larger iPhone or iPod touch, but have you seen some of the new apps in the works? Pretty amazing shit, the anatomy one for instance where you can get a 3D (almost hologram) look at the whole human body and touch different organs while it zooms in and gives you info on it looks jaw dropping. Thats just the start of it. Once the devs start utilizing its potential, there will be some really amazing apps for it. Oh and 80% of the shit people are complaining it doesnt do, like multi tasking for example, will be taken care of once you can jailbreak it. That should be in the next few months.

                                                                                                  I hate finger prints just as much as anyone so i carry around a lens cleaning cloth and wipe it down about once a hour to remove finger prints..

                                                                                                  Really some of these short falls that people are pointing out are just nit picking to be nit picking..

                                                                                                  They talk about multi tasking and such but you can have 6 to 8+ windows of internet tabs open and run the ipod in the background.. Really compared to a $300 netbook how much multi tasking can you do on that? I used my gf's netbook with windows 7 on it once and i had problems with 2 windows of IE and a file folder open with the thing lagging.

                                                                                                      Many of us couldn't use the ipad for work, simply because of graphics and coding.

                                                                                                      Outside of that, the other half of the Industry, you could do as much of your work on an ipad as you could on a mini pc. Outside of those needs, I could do every single project/job/idea I could think of on an ipad.

                                                                                                              lots of people are missing the generational advancements that are a part of every apple device. many are expecting way too much from a 1st gen device. for everything that's "missing", there's a reason. one of them being money. look back to every device that started. iphone. ipod. they all started with 1st gen foundations and worked up from there. for everything "missing" on them, the same reason's existed. one of them being money. and one of the others being future marketing opportunities.

                                                                                                                                              I personally dont see me getting one anytime soon. But i know i will get one with in the next 2 years.



                                                                                                                                              This thing will be the next Ideal way to surf for porn. No doubt about it. It will be a lot easier to start up in a bathroom or parked car.


                                                                                                                                              I have no doubt that the Ipad will be the next big thing. Apple plans things out carefully and isnt in this to not win.

                                                                                                                                                      I would LOVE that! my phone is a android and if they or a PC maker came out with a better tablet for all Ipad does i would love to get one but apples multi touch is a lot better than anything android can do right now. As I've said a million times Ipad is not the BEST tablet that will ever be made but like iphone it is the best made at the time and will bring others to compete with it. That is why Ipad is a game changer not cause it is that great but the idea is great and will bring even better Ipads and other tablets cause of it.
