This is just the latest in Apple planned obsolescence strategy. Why release something new and overhyped and make it fully featured when all the sheep will buy it even with all the limitations?
They can add more functionality later to keep sales brisk and that's exactly what they will do, just as they did with the iPhone, which, nearly 3 years after introduction, is only this summer going to be something I would consider using.

I think the ipad will be just as popular as the iphone , for the simple fact that the usability of it will be as simple as an iphone or ipod. I think alot of people miss the simplicity of using an apple product and when you mix that with a product that can replace most peoples laptops and desktops ( internet , email , pictures , video ) it will be a huge success. I'm not a huge apple fan but they make things which might seem hard on a PC very easy on their platform. Have you went shopping for a laptop lately , The average person doesn't understand or care about if it's a Pentium, Dual-core , windows 7/vista/xp , How much Ram. They just want something simple , that works.
I wouldn't be surprised if you see an ipad sitting in over 50% of peoples living rooms in the next couple years ,it will be the average persons tool for booking flights , ordering groceries , emailing family , paying bills . etc .I always think if my grand parents told me they wanted a computer to do some simple tasks on it , would you recommend a net book , or an ipad . I'm pretty sure the easiest/best route would be with an ipad.Comment

I can tell that i have had several pc laptops on my way to mac. Just the day they became more affordable i bought my first macbook pro. For designs things i cant say its too much different, better or worse but as a product it looks much more thinked of and finished. For me the cruicial part its how quiet it is, no noise at all, and being a unibody it feels real great when you carry one, open it and use. I don't know if its enough for YOU but calling it CRAP its a little strange, especially for a man who NEVER used it.Русня, идите нахуй!Comment

Regardless of what it can / can't do, Apple's going to sell a shitload of them, because they're a marketing behemoth. And make even more money because it's tied to their app store, as well as the "upgrades" to come down the pipe.
Personally, I don't need or want an iPad (I don't menstruate), and my dell mini serves just fine for portability, as well as being able to angle the screen how I want it regardless of the position I'm in, plus a bunch of other stuff. Regardless of my feelings, the fucker will sell, will sell huge, and people who buy it regardless when there's better alternatives out there (which there will be), will always be able to self-justify their purchase.

What most people seem to forget is that there are plenty of other devices just like this already on the market with more to come. Apple isn't changing anything, they're playing the same game as everyone else...they just bring the clout of being Apple to the game.

An iPod Touch is $200. A bigass ipod touch is $500. In case you haven't found the calculator app on your Mac yet, that's 2.5 times more expensive. That, in my humble opinion, is bad.
You need to get something straight. I am not an Apple hater. I have 2 Macs and an iPod Touch, original iPod and have had an iPhone. I'm on my iMac right now.
A Mac is just a computer. No more, no less. There's nothing spectacular about it other than the marketing. The only thing I hate are the Apple fanboys who get a hard-on for everything their messiah (Steve Jobs) releases. I hate those that vehemently attack people who say anything negative about their precious hardware company.
Opinions are a wonderful thing too. Don't like what I write? Don't read it, hypocrite.

I have used a Mac since day one in this business. I find that the people you mention above are those that just saved up their money and purchased their first Macbook. Those of us that have been using it long enough realize it's just a preference, nothing more...nothing less.Comment
