A few things to address the deficit/healthcare.

1. Lower the defense budget. The cold war is over. Do we really need all this shit still? Probably 80% of it goes unused. It's probably cheaper to send money to some of the citizens of enemy countries than it is to keep building bombs. It would damn sure make it harder to recruit terrorists when they are sitting in their newly built American house vs. some damn thatch hut or cave.

2. Close some of those military bases abroad. I know you need the base in S. Korea in case N. Korea starts some shit, but seriously can the shit in Germany go now? While you're at it, I'm sure some of the domestic bases can go too.

3. In healthcare: Stop covering everything. Namely smokers. Most of the problems in the healthcare system stem from people needing coverage due to their eating habits, lifestyle choices, etc. You should have a right to smoke, but if you get sick from it nobody is paying for you. Or better yet, start an insurance fund where the boys from Tobacco row pay all the premiums for their "addicts". I know if you smoke your insurance premiums are higher, but they are never high enough to cover the cost of a smokers care. Life insurance doesn't cover suicide, health insurance shouldn't cover smokers. That's your choice to smoke, you pay for it.

4. Pick a future date and end welfare on that date: We make it too easy in this country for women to choose being a single mother. If you say beginning in Jan 2013 we will not cover anymore single mothers I assure you that will do what everything short of abstinence hasn't done. I know that the current President came from a single parent home, but that's the exception and not the rule. If you take away the welfare carrot you will quit adding to the ranks of those that depend on the system and add to the deficit. Welfare should only be for those that were born with a defect, lost a job, suffered an accident, etc.

5. Legalize drugs. You have so many people locked up for dumb shit. And for all of you "tough on crime" people, let me remind you that jail is not free. It costs a lot of $ to house, feed, clothe and yes; provide healthcare, to inmates. If someone wants weed do we really give a damn as long as they aren't hurting anyone else? People that are going to get high are going to get high; period. You may as well get some tax money from it. Wow you increase the tax revenue and save additional money by lowering the prison costs. Sorry church crowd, until you start paying some taxes yourself your opinion doesn't matter on this topic.

6. Legalize prostitution. Again, another untapped tax base and we are paying handsomely to keep people in jail over dumb shit. And I don't want to hear the marriage crap because the divorce rate is at 50% as it is. Not to mention you take someone who is in a lot of instances "unhireable" in other industries and make them a tax paying member to society vs. now doing all of that shit under the table tax free. Also they would no longer have to live in fear of getting a "lifestyle audit".

7. Get rid of the farm stipends. It amazes me that as much as this country bitches about welfare that you don't hear much about this ultimate form of welfare.

8. More and better schools. With education/opportunity comes crime reduction; period. Building more jails doesn't curb crime. Shit you go in and it makes you a better criminal. We have the highest jail rate of any industrialized nation and still looks to me like the crime rate is the same or worse.
