I wonder how long before the government makes it illegal to take cash for medical care, so we will all be forced to buy insurance....oh, wait...

That's great!!! And if done on a national basis, all the poor people will die, while the folks who pull their own weight in society (i.e., people with lots of money) survive. I love it!

Some doctors deciding to treat people without the insurance companies in the middle = dead poor people. Wow, talk about taking a giant leap to an extreme conclusion!...

Be more charitable man ..... Based on the percentage of our GDP that total health care represents we ARE paying enough for everyone to be covered already.

As taxpayers and private citizens we continue to fund more than enough, what we need is leadership not the same old DEM/REP puppets.

I'm sure we all have the cash around for chemo or for perhaps reconstructive surgery after an unfortunate car accident.

It's not a giant leap, it's a method of argument: Reductio ad absurdum. Look it up.

The poor will always be around. That's a dead-end argument. You can't "get rid of" the poor because that is the name for the lowest social income level. Call it what you want, they're still poor.

And because they need to eat and work, they will do whatever work needs doing. If there are no poor locally, they will be imported, as in the case of migrant crop pickers or poultry and pig farm workers. There will always be poor.

The point is how to care for them so a) they're healthy enough to not spread a bunch of diseases through society and b) not desperate enough to steal stuff from the rich.

Elli, you're not going to solve B. Crime will always occur, regardless of society's general well being.

No, we won't ever solve crime, just like we won't solve poor. BUT if we keep the poor healthy and cared for instead of saddling, say, a single mother with three children and a job or two with $100k in debt because of her dying father's cancer, then her kids might have a life other than on the streets slinging drugs to help mom pay rent.
