Where is the Penny Flame thread with her on the new Tv show that was on tonight?

It was called Sober House and had Dr. Drew on it again. I figured there would be some threads about it. I didn't even know she had retired/quit or whatever but she looks very good on the show

dont watch tv so i can't tell you, but since she's "out of the industry" and mainstream now she uses her real name for regular TV stuff etc... you can google her as Jenni ketchham VH1 star (sp?) or something like that

I thought she was on the sex adicts show? Is sober house like a cross over between the drug rehab and the sex rehab?

I know I shouldn't feel too bad about it, but I just get the feeling like Dr. Drew is really taking advantage of these people at one of their weakest moments. Some of the shit they do to these people seems to contradict common sense, like there's no rhyme or reason to the treatment / therapy. Anyone else get that impression?

from what I gather, after they do the rehab show they are asked if they want to go to the sober house

Just caught Sober House. Don't understand why they have this Carrie Ann girl there. Is she even really famous?

She just seems completely out of control and it doesn't make sense that they make so many conessions for her. One- constantly allowing her to push back and break rules w/o consequence teaches her nothing, and two- she poisons the environment of other "patients", giving them an additional obsticle to deal with, putting their success and sobriety at risk. And for what? A Miss Teen USA?

Call it good television, but don't call it therapy.

You hit the nail on the head. These shows are just ways for folks who are trying to get in OR are down on their luck to try and get back in.

Has nothing to do with anything but entertainment. I don't understand the allure of any of the "reality" shows. But it sure is a nice way for the studios to make money. Let's see...they could pay every cast member of a sitcom like "Friends" a million bucks an episode OR they can get these mongrels for peanuts and have great ratings and rake in the money.

Kinda like how American Idol makes a bajillion dollars a season and those dumb ass kids don't get paid shit. But the payoff is in the exposure. Same for Dr. Drew.

Penny Flame is hoping that somehow, somebody will see her and she'll go to the next level. If not, she can still make a living as a "regular" on reality shows.

If Dr. Drew still didn't practice medicine every day with old people that are not famous, I'd call him a quack. The reality is that he is still a regular doctor by day and a famous doctor by night.

Many of these people had demons before fame, but the demons took over after fame. They crave the spotlight. It's alternative treatment, but if you look at the alumni, it appears to work for many. Put them back in the limelight, on TV and they are happy and focus on their sobriety.

Of course, the limelight will end again, and what they do after treatment is what will matter the most. How does that differ from any other addict? The goal is to get them to focus on themselves and not the fame. An hour of reality TV is usually made from one week of treatment. The majority of the treatment they receive is never shown on TV.

There are many types of effective treatment. I got clean on outpatient treatment when the majority of people that abuse what I did never get clean and/or require many stints of inpatient. Treatment on TV may be what works best for fallen stars.

I think fame is the problem.

Fame is a bitch ... but you've still got to address it and get these people fixed, no matter what it takes.

Extreme fame can be extremely lonely. Moderate fame can be extremely rewarding if you play your cards right.

The constant need for attention needs to be addressed. These people need to learn to live without it and not feel the need to abuse when the attention is gone. I always get the feeling that those on this show are not serious about their recovery because if they were, they wouldn't need to do on a television show.

Face it...these people are making a calculated move to try and get some work. Nothing more.

If they aren't, and really believe they need "help", then I would say have Dr. Drew leave the room and send in Keith Richards with his trusty telecaster to bash them all in the heads until they're dead for being a bunch of pussies.

Hell he did more drugs in an hour than all those losers on those shows have done in their whole lives put together. And I just read an article in the new Rolling Stone magazine about them releasing a new digital version of "Exile On Main Street" complete with out-takes and never released songs from the sessions. When they asked him if he was still "clean"...Keef had this to say: "The rumors of my sobriety have been greatly exaggerated"

Guess what? He's filthy rich and getting richer everyday and has lived a life that very few can ever attain. Maybe those "patients" on Dr. Drew should realize that rehab is for quitters.

Agreed on point one. We must remember though that each addicts recovery is an individual path. We must not judge the method, but honor them for trying.

Point two was actually addressed in one episode. I don't know, who, or even what season ... I rarely catch the show.

For every Keith Richards there are possibly hundreds of thousands that tried to emulate that lifestyle and died trying.

Some of the people on the show may be in it for less than pure reasons, but some, including Jennifer Ketchum, actually are greatly helped by it. I follow her blog, and she has been sober for almost a full year now, kicking booze and drugs completely. From what I can tell, she has taken the whole rehabilitation process seriously and is probably one of Dr. Drew's biggest success stories.
