i used to promote the celeb niche only from 98-2004....shortly after that point ratios have been shit and keep getting worse. i think the main reason why is that is so easy to find all the celeb stuff....everywhere. especially TMZ and youtube are having a major effect.you don't know you're wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day..Comment

I would say increased competition is.
You also have more of these 'entertainment sites' or news tied into social networks. So they do not need 10 sites to get all the hot pictures and gossip. They can get it in one place.
Between competition and more people chasing the same nut, you also have advancement in offerings where they can go to a FB, MS, or similar and get it all in one place. So those with the deep pockets, bigger reach, better website can better keep visitors on one site.
Which is the Disney concept of 'on property'. If you build it all into one super site. They will not need the smaller, secondary sites anymore. So you are essentially phased out.
