Wow... reads like an ad for that bad customer site.

"But until they're denied by a merchant, either online or in a store, many shoppers probably won't know if they're on the blacklist and should contact [that site] to get their name off of it."

Who cares... someone denies my card, I move on... there is plenty of other options available.

There are a handful of merchants who are signing up for that site as an extra measure for preventing fraud

I am not sure how well it works, but it is growing.

Because a chargeback isn't the same as a credit. If a customer writes and is unsatisfied then we simply give them their money back. That's a credit.

If they DON'T write you, but instead are on the site everyday and then a couple of months later are looking at their bank statement and see that charge from months back and can't remember what it is...and then they go to the bank claiming that they don't know what that's about. Then they get their money back and we get nailed with a chargeback.

So then we not only lose the initial money, but we also STILL have to pay the processing fee (anywhere from single digits to 20%) AND we have to pay a fine as well. So we lose money big time. And then on top of all that, if you get more than a small percentage of chargebacks...you lose your merchant account.

Chargebacks are the worst.

i understand that chargebacks are not welcomed, but do not blame cc owner, blame someone other from online business. most of the chargebacks are from stolen credit cards taken from pay gateway or other source. there is many choices so so many possibilities. fraud is huge and thats from where most of the chargebacks come imho. dont blame surfer, blame lame with informations in wrong hand, and learn how to live with it

There are different types of chargebacks.

1. Where a customer's card details are stolen or used without his permission. [LEGITIMATE]
2. Where a customer is unhappy with a service and can't get a refund from the merchant [AVOIDABLE]
3. Where the customer did make the purchase, and did enjoy the site but lied and said he didn't to get his money back or because his wife saw the charge etc [SCUMBAG WHO DESERVES BLACKLISTING]

Whereas you should have had communication with (2) it is not always easy to differentiate between numbers (1) and (3) and so any service that blacklists people rather than card numbers has to be careful that they are blacklisting scumbags rather than victims.

This... and when a sig other gets a look at the statement and says "What's this charge for?".

The majority of chargebacks I have seen fall under what some people call "friendly fraud", where the card number and personal information have not been compromised, though if you ask me there's nothing friendly about it.

As much as I'd love to punish those fuckers, this BadCustomer thing looks like a gimmick to me.

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure most legit black lists ban the card, not the customer. This ensures stolen cards can't be used again but doesn't limit the customer from using an uncompromised card down the road.

The worst fucking type... I have a few repeat offenders I'd love to introduce to my foot.
