There is no free one.
I'll do you a favor though. The oldest whois record in DomainTools has:
Record last updated on 17-Aug-2001
Record expires on 02-Mar-2002
Record created on 02-Mar-1999
Database last updated on 11-Jan-2002 15:00:24 EST
Oops.
DomainTools has only been archiving Whois records since 2001, so there's never going to be whois records older than that. The best one can do is look at the oldest record they have archived.
