LLC question - privacy

Currently I am paying for privacy but it woudl be cheaper to create an LLC and rent a mail box to hide my identity. Is it easy to find out who owns an LLC?

Would I then push to the new godaddy account or transfer?

Thanks in advance

In the states I'm familiar with that is public info and VERY easy to find.

Tons of reasons: religion, family, taxes, co-workers, local authorities, ex-wives, on and on and on. Besides, no one should know your business if tyou don't want them to - as long as you're conducting legal business, of course.

BTW: You don't need to have an LLC to maintain privacy. You can get a mailbox without one, obviously, but can also do a DBA under a 'business' name. Depending on whcih state you register in the privacy laws can be great. I'd do some research first before commiting to an LLC.

Look into using a "Registered Agent" in NV & RI.

All one needs to do is go to the secretary of state web site, input the llc name and the principals identity will come up.

Not in my state. You'd get the registered agent, which can be anyone residing in the state over the age of 18 as well as another business. A lot of people use their lawyer as their registered agent. The members of an LLC are not identified anywhere in the articles of organization unless they want to be. The members are identified in the operating agreement, which is not a public document ... or even a document that the state has a copy of.

Same here. I don't understand why you have to hide this fact.

Lets say John Smith owns Company A. Why would you want to hide that fact?

I just formed an LLC in NY, not for privacy...just in case a legal issue comes up. It cost me $200, and yes much cheaper then getting privacy from godaddy (it would have cost me close to 10K a year).

But and a big but...with godaddy once you start changing contact data...they don't allow you to transfer domains for 60 days...which fucking sucks.

Another issue is trying to update the contact info since I want my billing different then register/admin/and technical...so you need to do each contact section manually. Because of this it is going to take me a couple of weeks to change my data

Now I just need to get a tax ID number for the LLC, and I researched today on how to file taxes for the LLC.

You will need to file the LLC with your state...

When did DC become a state?

In my state you don't even need to have a registered agent on file. You cannot register an LLC to a PO Box here tho, it has to be a physical address.

In NY you can use a PO Box, if you need a physical address try using the address of the post office and put #xxx (the number of your box) Citibank does not allow you to use a PO Box either but figured a way around it, US Bank still working on it. Getting mail sent to my apt. in the bronx was a nightmare...I would find my mail on the floor in the hallway. Been using PO Boxes for almost 20 years now.

LLC's have lots of other benefits and it doesn't cost much to get set up as one. If you are self employeed it is good to keep your business seperate for liability reasons and tax reasons. Consult with the person who does your taxes so you can take maxium advantage of write offs.

In most states you can use a DBA... which you can register at your county clerks office for as low as $10... corporations are also allowed to use DBA's.

SOS also lists Officers

Do you have some special way to make the registered agent the Officer also?

Sounds good dude! Hit me up - I'm around Roberto Clemente State Park, around w.190th & St. Nicholas. Hangin' with the Latina hotties. LOL

Yes, business is excellent idea - we don't have much Asian content with MRPW so we should talk sometime. Make bank for all NYers!!

in california it will only show address and service agent, officers or principals are not listed or otherwise disclosed.

one of the advantages of using a corp is to protect your personal assets, its called the corporate shield.

i am surprised NV search shows also name and address of officers etc.
