When you think '80's bands' who must be included?

I am setting about revamping an 80's themed music site I have neglected for too long. I am aware that I have a particular vein of 80s music that my mind tend to go to and that I may overlook bands that other people think are 'must haves' for the decade.

My list will always include bands/singers such as:

    Depeche Mode
    The Cure
    The Smiths
    R.E.M.
    New Order
    Human League

    etc

And of course I am not going to forget Prince, Madonna, Michael Jackson and Cindy Lauper but who else is a must have for you an any 80s list ?

Well not that I'm a big fan of all the following( and it's not all encompassing ) but if want a partial list of bands/singers that had many hits in the 80's then you'd have to include

                        Def Leppard
                        Guns & Roses

                        U2
                        The Police

You shouldn't. Although they haven't had a hit since the 80's, they are still there. Daniel ash's solo albums are also very solid. I really like his approach on what guitar should be.

I saw them last time touring for the Sweet FA album but would go again if they came back. Since then, I saw Bauhaus twice but there's no comparison to the Resurrection tour they had in 98. That was a dream come true.

My all time fave band from that genre has to go to the Sisters of Mercy. Absolutely amazing music.

See with The Clash, I always sort of want to stick them in the 70s just on when I think the did their best stuff. But I suppose most of the more mainstream stuff was 80s.

Duran Duran were huge in the early and mid-80s, as were Culture Club, Wham & George Michael, Tears For Fears, The Smiths, etc.
I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I wish I was drinking wine instead.

The third person to reply mentioned Whitesnake and Poison. Surely, they fit that bill.

Tears For Fears are much underrated. If you listen to their lyrics they belonged doing moody Cure type stuff rather than wearing silly sweaters.

So many good bands, hard to know where to start, but that's what comes off the top of my head.
