Which is always a confusing one for British audiences because the bands Americans call Yaz was called Yazoo over here and there was another (amazonian sized) female singer that went by Yazz.

i keep wanting to add art of noise and herbie hancock to this list, whilst not superachievers in record sales their style is quintessential 80's alt and both are big contributions to the music world, imo.

and later in the decade Jeff Healy, Colin James, The Pursuite of Happiness, Tragically Hip, Grapes of Wrath, Blue Rodeo.
