Our websites download SOOOO SLOW!!!

Any advice on how to speed up our download?

It seems to download o.k. if you have DSL... but, what about the "fly over" States... and what about Europe?

I doubt if a 56K modem can dowload our sites.

Is Europe hooked up with DSL?

I think we are losing lots of biz with our slow poke downloading sites.

I just read the average surfer will only hang around about 3 to 4 secs then move on.

1st off your website looks good and downloaded pretty fast on my slowest computer...running a half gig ram.

If you wanted it to download even quicker just optimize those photos even more, just enough so you don't lose much clarity. You can also try to make them into .gif files.

But I would not change a thing since I feel it is fast enough, plus the quality of the phots should look high res since this is what your pushing.

Wow, this is amazing. I ran one of those online site tester things and it said the site was too large and too slow.

I'm very pleased to know that our sites downloaded nice on your computer. I think our Apple Twin page is about 3MB. I thought on dsl, 3mb download was o.k.... but I'm worried about other parts of the world. I like the clarity of our pics and would hate to reduce them further.

I hope people in Europe and Canada/Australia can see our sites too.

If you want to see where your visitors are coming from http://www.google.com/analytics/home it is free and it will give you a chart and breakdown of what countries your visitors are coming from.

Thank you! I've been stressing over this cause I know all the pro sites are so quick to see and are under 200K. Our 3MB page is freakin me out, but I guess now the technology is catching up and surfers surf faster now.

for example this image http://www.theappletwins.com/image3/NewTour1.jpg needs to be sliced, headers and photos should all be sliced separately, photos need to be optimized jpegs and header and other colored area should be gifs, you could cut down about 200kb just here alone.

and this image is ridiculous: http://www.theappletwins.com/image3/NewTour2.jpg same thing, slice it up, use background images in tables and lose the graphic text images replace wit text , use background images to achieve the same look, you could save another 300k or more there

all the jpegs in the scroller can be optimized and sharpened and save another 200k

basically, you need to learn to design better or hire a real one

I think this was mentioned to you before, but glad you are looking into it now at least.
Your site loads to slow period, and it will cost you sales.
No matter if the dial up surfers are fading there are still tons of them and if you can't get your site dowloaded onto their computer fast enough sales are going out the window.
That said some image optimization in PS should be good enough to get things in the ball park.
Glad your taking care of this issue finally it should help a lot.

3mbs for a page. wow, that's way too huge. A fast connection can handle this very quickly.. but in truth a page should load in 3 seconds or less

As already mentioned several times, optimize photos, slice bigger images and optimize those. Yes photoshop can slice and optimize all of this for you.

Thanks, looked into slicing and optimizing images.... turns out that some of the larger images were saved at "10" instead of "8"... we reduced all of those images and save about 1/3.
Problem is the pages are just too long and have too many hi res pics on it. All the little thumbs we have to lower, that will take time but will save more download time.
Converting smaller images any lower or to gif's just didn't look right, so we will focus on making smaller pages.

Thanks for the tips. We'll keep workin on it. At least they are 1/3 smaller now, they pop a little quicker, but over all still slow for the modem users.

That site is horrible on so many levels. Not trying to be a dick but that is the reality of it. I can fix all your problems and even guarantee my work, but it will not be cheap. That site should be re-built 100% - Your host is NOT the problem and making a few slices wont solve it either.

A lot of people here have broadband but what is advertised as 'up to 8Mb' can quite often be a lot worse. My speed is a bit rubbish (usually about 90 KiB/s) due to being in the middle of nowhere miles from the nearest telephone exchange along copper wires.

Both sites take about 40 seconds each for the whole page to fully load. Although my download speed isn't anything to boast about if it wasn't for actually doing it as a test I wouldn't have waited that long unless your sites had been loading in a tab in the background while I was already looking at something else.

Thanks, we reduced all the images by about 1/3... but, it's still too large. The site opens up really nice now on a regular dsl line, but still too slow on modem speeds. We have a 10mb line, (but do sites really download at 10mbps?? ) And the site seems to pop fine.

Is Europe hooked up with DSL?

I think we are losing lots of biz with our slow poke downloading sites.

I just read the average surfer will only hang around about 3 to 4 secs then move on.

Any advice on speeding things up would be appreciated.

we know are sites are amateur, just looking for a way to get things moving faster.

On behalf of yourselves, well done as both sites look ok. A little amateur but very sellable.

To speed any downloads up, maybe chop your pictures, especially the header into smaller sections to create a faster download. each jpg wants to download together, which allows the whole areas to download faster.

On a controversial topic, does the idea of twins not co inside with incest? What is the difference between mummy and son, daddy and daughter, sister and brother or twin sisters kissing & inserting toys & fingers inside each other?

What rules have ccbill got over this? I was once banned by visa as I quoted a word instead of writing something like "Natalie K, to be tied up & hard fucked by several guys".... You get the jist of it...
So how does the twin thing work? They are family members and they are enjoying each other???
