What to do in LA next week? I'll tell you...

Whomever is coming to Xbiz, I hope you have a great trip to "Fantastic LA" next week.
If you need any advice on our great city such as restaurants, clubs or sporting event venues, just ask me. Being an LA native, I know a few spots you won’t find in the guides.

Here just a few of my favorites off the top of my head (hit me up for more):

Restaurant:

Gardens of Taxco – This place opened 39 years ago and has unbelievable Mexican food.
No menus , the waiter recites the entire menu. Great atmosphere, best margaritas in LA
14.95 gets you a 3 course meal before 7pm if you print this coupon http://gardensoftaxco.com/popDiscount.html
1113 North Harper Avenue
West Hollywood, CA 90046
(323) 654-1746

Dive Bars:

There are a lot of these old school “dive bars” in Hollywood. You won’t find any red carpet or valet here, but you will have a “unique” experience at these historic watering holes:

The Frolic Room – Quench your thirst with cheap drinks while rubbing shoulder with the diverse clientele. You will see everything from young starlets to washed up character actors.
It’s been there since the 1940’s. You seen this bar in many movies, one that comes to mind is "LA Confidential" (when Kevin Spacey leaves the $50 drink tip). Elizabeth Short / Black Dahlia hung out here(and the exterior was used in the recent Black Dahlia movie.
Neighborhood: Hollywood
6245 Hollywood Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90028
(323) 462-5890

The Power House - If you look up the word "dive" in the Webster's dictionary - you'll see a picture of the Power House… for real.
I don’t know the history of this place, but it’s a lot like the frolic, but a bit more “rough”
Neighborhood: Hollywood
1714 N Highland Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90028
(323) 463-9438

On a business note…

Many webmasters have figured out that webcam sites are the best way to make money in this climate.
Not only because the amount you can earn on each customer is only limited by their bank account, but because of all the free/stolen content out there.

Bottom line surfers cant steal "live", they have to pay for it, and they do pay :-)

In this slumping economy I'm happy to say webcams are stronger than ever. I am setting up meetings to show you how you can turn your quality traffic in to cash.

Just shoot me an email:

[email protected]

Any other LA Peeps have any suggestions?

If you want to get away from the congested city then this sushi house is just a minute or 2 up the hill. You will feel transported and the food is great. You can probably see the Roosevelt Hotel in the view.

A few more of my faves....

Cool unusual Night club:

Three Clubs. A cool random, undiscovered little bar with good tunes. It's three clubs in one- a dive bar as dance club and a live band club. Everything you want in a club except you don't have to be surrounded by 15 year olds with fake over 18 ID's in a sweltering room verging on 98 degrees.
1123 Vine Street
Los Angeles, CA 90038-1670
(323) 462-6441

PHOTOS OF THE CLUB

Legendary Rock n' Roll Eatery/Night Club :

The Rainbow Bar and grill To much to describe here, but you will probably see Slash or Lemmy from Motorhead there if you go on a week night - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_Bar_and_Grill

All good places, except Hinano's--I used to live three blocks from there, and the place was scary... they have huge bouncers there, one of whom is ex-French Foreign Legion. Some other places:
The Brig (bar) on Abbott Kinney, Venice
Via Veneto (great Italian food, and celeb clientele), Main Street, Santa Monica
Chinois, Wolfgang Puck's Chinese place ($$$), Main Street, Santa Monica
Chaya, Main Street, Venice

In the area of the hotel (Sofitel right?) Roger Room opened a few months ago (2 blocks north on La Cienega) - very cool classy speakeasy type place.

Nobu has excellent sushi and bar (appies/drinks) happy hour daily until 9pm. About 8 blocks north also on La Cienega.

I live 10 minutes from South Beach, so I am used to seeing the crazy prices on a bottle of Goose. I was just looking for a hot spot near sofitel to take some clients too. Thanks for the input!

Hinano's is soooo not scary. This must have been a while ago maybe? My friend owns it. It's a fun place.

For Italian I recommend Il Piccolo in Venice over Via Veneto...it rocks.

For those of you with some coin in your pockets who want to have a great sushi dinner-
I suggest Matsuhisa as well as KOI on La Cienega.

If you like Chinese Food with a funky Flair right up the street from the Sofitel is Genghis Cohen- it's awesome.

I also love Toast on 3rd for a nice Breakfast meeting or La Conversation is you want to get away from the hotel and want something real good and intimate for breakfast

I LOVE their sweet rolls and pastries they bring out first
:-))

Whomever told you that, is a complete and utter douche

The Rainbow Bar and Grill is a bar and restaurant on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, California, United States adjacent to the border of Beverly Hills, California. Its address is 9015 Sunset Boulevard.

The bottom level of the Rainbow is the restaurant, The Rainbow Bar and Grill. Upstairs is an exclusive club called "Over the Rainbow". The Over the Rainbow consists of a full bar, dance floor, and a DJ booth. The club is usually reserved for musicians and others to whom only bouncers allow access. The restaurant is next to the nightclubs, The Roxy Theatre and The Key Club.

The restaurant was founded in early 1972 by Elmer Valentine, Lou Adler, Mario Maglieri and others.[1], opening on April 16, 1972 with a party for Elton John. [2] At the time, the word "rainbow" signified peace and freedom. It quickly became known as a hangout for celebrities of all types.[3] John Belushi ate his last meal[4] (lentil soup)[5] at table #16. For many years, the owner was Mario Maglieri.[3]

Before becoming the Rainbow, the restaurant was the Villa Nova restaurant, which was originally owned by film director Vincente Minnelli, at the time married to Judy Garland. Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe met at the restaurant on a blind date in 1952.[6]

The Rainbow became known as a hangout for rock musicians and their groupies. Notable regulars at the Rainbow in this period include John Lennon, Keith Moon, Grace Slick, Ringo Starr, Neil Diamond, Janis Joplin,[4] Jim Morrison,[4] Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Lizzy Valentine and many others. Elvis Presley was known to have occasionally visited the Rainbow. Los Angeles songwriter Warren Zevon referenced the scene at the Rainbow in the last verse of his 1976 song "Poor Poor Pitiful Me." The musical group Rainbow was named after this club.

As musical trends on the Strip changed towards heavy metal in the 1980s, the Rainbow followed suit. Members of Mötley Crüe,[7] Poison, and Guns N' Roses frequented the bar.[8] It was mentioned in a number of songs, such as "Sunset and Babylon" by W.A.S.P. and "Peach Kelli Pop" by Redd Kross, and featured in the videos of "November Rain", "Estranged" and "Don't Cry" by Guns N' Roses. The Rainbow is also featured in the song "Headaches and Heartaches" by Magic Ship.

Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers noted in his book "Scar Tissue" that he often sat with his father, Blackie Dammett, at the club along with various members of bands such as Led Zeppelin. Often the waitresses and bartenders were groupies as well as those who frequented the establishment. In Pamela Des Barres' book, "Let's Spend the Night Together", Patti Johnson commented that as a employee in the early 1980s she met a number of celebrities including Billy Idol.[9]

The Rainbow still attracts celebrities, but its clientèle is increasingly aging as fashions have passed it by. The Rainbow has never abandoned its rock 'n roll character, and its dance club, Over the Rainbow, still only plays rock music today.

Nearby, popular, fits the bill: http://www.yelp.com/biz/voyeur-los-angeles

Even closer is Coco De Ville/STK but not as popular these days.

Best Mexican tacos/burritos, hands down, 'El Taurino' in the Pico-Union area (Seedy area, but damned if their food isn't awesome! There's a reason so many tourists head there when in LA.

Thanks for this post! I am arriving in LA before the xbiz show and plan to hit as many bars as possible, and end up at Rainbow (my favourite L.A. bar). I missed it last time, but won't miss it again.
